About the Company

Our client is a privately held, rapidly growing restaurant franchise group that operates a portfolio of locations across several provinces through multiple legal entities under common ownership, with substantial intercompany activity between them and new entities added as the group expands.

Growth here is continuous rather than cyclical.

The group gets larger every year, the entity structure gets more complex alongside it, and the accounting function has to grow with it rather than react to it.

This is an opportunity to join an entrepreneurial, owner-led organization at a stage where the finance function is being built to scale, and where your work will directly shape the systems, processes and structure that support the group's next phase of growth.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to ownership and the CFO, the Accounting Manager will be the senior accounting professional in the group and will play a central role in keeping its growth disciplined.

Cost accounting is at the heart of the role.

You'll own how cost is measured, explained and controlled at the unit level, turning variances and margins into insight that shapes decisions across the business.

Key Responsibilities – What You’ll Own

  • Standard costing, bill of materials costing, and maintenance of cost standards against changing input pricing
  • Variance analysis: price, usage, yield, and mix, with clear explanations of what moved and why
  • Unit-level margin reporting and P&Ls, including allocation of shared overhead
  • Theoretical versus actual usage analysis and the controls that support it
  • Month-End Close and Multi-Entity Reporting Full ownership of the close across all entities, start to finish
  • A high volume of intercompany transactions, reconciliations, eliminations, and consolidated reporting
  • Reconciliation review, accrual discipline, and cut-off control
  • Building a close process that scales as entities are added
  • Growth and Change Management Leading process, system and control improvements that scale with the business, from initial design through to full implementation
  • Standardizing and documenting procedures to support seamless onboarding of new entities and staff
  • Guiding the accounting team and non-financial stakeholders through change, building buy-in and driving adoption
  • Integrating new entities into existing reporting, costing, and compliance frameworks
  • CRA Compliance HST filings across entities with varying filing frequencies
  • Payroll source deductions, remittances, T4/T4A, and ROEs
  • Year-end working papers and support for year-end Review Engagement
  • Corporate tax filings
  • Direct handling of CRA correspondence, reviews, and information requests
  • Fund Accounting Segregation, tracking, and reporting of pooled funds, including reporting fund balances to stakeholders
  • Controls demonstrating that fund activities are applied only to permitted purposes
  • Leadership Supervising, reviewing, and developing junior accounting staff
  • Setting the review standard (catching issues without redoing the work yourself)
  • Managing a distributed team effectively

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including hands-on ownership of month-end close
  • Demonstrated multi-entity accounting experience in an environment with significant intercompany activity
  • Genuine cost accounting depth: you can decompose a variance and explain it to someone who isn't an accountant
  • A successful track record of leading change, such as rebuilding processes, implementing systems and controls
  • Hands-on CRA compliance experience, including preparing or reviewing HST and payroll filings managed directly rather than outsourced to an external firm
  • Experience supervising junior accounting staff
  • Strong Excel skills, with comfort building and maintaining reporting tools
  • You will see owner-level and site-level financial detail.
  • Considered a Strong Asset: CPA designation, or actively working toward one (CPA PEP / CFE in progress)
  • Fund accounting or restricted-fund experience (from franchising, co-ops, associations, not-for-profit, or trust environments)
  • Multi-unit or multi-site operator background (retail, hospitality, distribution, contract services, or similar)
  • Inventory-intensive environment experience
  • Multi-province payroll exposure, including provincial variation and WCB registration
  • Public practice foundation followed by industry ERP implementation or system conversion experience
  • Experience in a business that grew steadily and had to rebuild its processes to keep pace
  • Location

This role can be based in Atlantic Canada, with regular travel to head-office locations.

We embrace a culture of belonging in the workplace.
