Shape RPG progression and combat balance as a Principal Systems Designer at Velan Studios, working hybrid or onsite in Troy or Toronto. Velan Studios seeks an experienced systems designer for a new ARPG based on a premiere fantasy IP. You will turn player fantasies into stats, skills, and systems. The work combines numerical formulas, creative goals, gameplay balance, and close engineering partnership.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own player progression, skill trees, and game balance
- Create and balance combat formulas across player levels
- Bridge combat design with item progression systems
- Maintain high-level paper designs for key systems
- Drive iteration through playtest feedback and game maturity
Requirements:
- Six-plus years in systems or balance design
- At least one shipped title with RPG-style systems
- General scripting proficiency
- Excellent cross-disciplinary communication skills
- Spreadsheet and data-table numerical proficiency
