Reporting to the Coordinator – Student Services, the Social Worker provides prevention, screening and intervention with students who are experiencing or are likely to experience emotional, social, academic or family problems to enable them to achieve their goals through academic success, social and emotional adjustment and integration into college life.
More specifically, but not limited to, the Social Worker:
- Conducts a psychosocial assessment of a person within the framework of the protection supervision of persons (this activity is reserved exclusively for social workers);
- Provides short-term counselling to a diverse set of clients dealing with various issues;
- Arranges activities designed to ensure that students maximize their potential, particularly in their personal, family and social life;
- Designs and participates in screening, outreach, awareness and prevention programs focused on issues related to mental health and academic success of the student population;
- Develops and maintains contacts with representatives of the health and social services network and other partner organizations in their own area of competence;
- Intervenes in order to defuse crises or emergency situations and suggests avenues for resolving them;
- Collaborates with staff and faculty, as well as service providers or other organizations as needed;
- Attends Counselling team meetings and participates in case studies within multidisciplinary teams;
- Prepares and updates records adhering to the standards of their profession and the College’s by-laws.
