The opportunity involves developing the Unity platform by designing, building, testing, and maintaining systems that empower developers to ship and operate live games at scale. The Diagnostics team is responsible for data that informs creators about their games' performance, including crash reports, telemetry, observability, product health analysis, and the Unity Dashboard.

We are seeking a Senior Software Developer to join the Diagnostics team as a backend-leaning generalist. You will lead end-to-end design across our stack, which includes ingest from millions of game clients, pipelines built on OpenTelemetry, a ClickHouse-based data lake, and the dashboard surfaces customers depend on. You will collaborate closely with the Data, IAP, Profiler, and DevX teams on integrations that enhance Diagnostics.

Our stack primarily uses Go, along with Kotlin, TypeScript, and C#. This is a small, autonomous team where senior judgment is crucial: you will influence how the team designs, reviews, and ships, including the integration of agentic AI tools into our processes.

What you'll be doing:

  • Lead end-to-end design across ingest, pipelines, ClickHouse storage and query, and the dashboards developers rely on.
  • Write and maintain high-quality Go services that handle attacker-controlled inputs at scale, focusing on reliability, performance, and clean data contracts.
  • Enhance code review practices and AI-assisted output review, establishing norms for the team.
  • Collaborate across teams (Data, IAP, Unity Profiler, DevX, Analytics) to design robust integrations.
  • Mentor engineers, share patterns, and break down complex problems into actionable solutions.

What we're looking for:

  • Production experience with Go in high-throughput services, with a backend-leaning generalist skill set.
  • Demonstrated senior-level judgment with a history of leading design efforts and mentoring peers.
  • Hands-on experience with agentic AI workflows and coding agents.
  • Experience designing for and querying NoSQL or OLAP/columnar data stores, with familiarity in data pipelines.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, able to work effectively across teams and time zones.

You might also have:

  • Genuine interest or experience in observability and telemetry, particularly OpenTelemetry.
  • Front-end experience with TypeScript and contributions to dashboard-style surfaces.
  • Production experience with Kotlin or exposure to C# on the engine side.
  • A gaming background that provides context for developers' use of diagnostics.
  • Habits around handling user data responsibly, including trust boundaries and hygienic logging.

Additional information:

  • Relocation support is not available for this position.
  • Work visa/immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.
