Lead landfill and recycling operations for the Town of The Blue Mountains, using supervisory expertise and environmental compliance knowledge. This full-time position works Tuesday to Saturday, approximately 40 hours weekly.
Reporting to the Manager of Sustainability and Solid Waste, the Solid Waste Disposal Site Supervisor leads employees and contractors across the Landfill and Recycling Depot. The role oversees landfill, waste diversion, composting, and hazardous waste facilities. Responsibilities include scheduling, coaching, regulatory reporting, equipment coordination, procurement, and customer service. The position supports safe, compliant, and efficient operations within the Operations Department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise daily operations, staffing, priorities, schedules, and overtime requirements
- Oversee landfill, recycling, composting, and hazardous waste facilities
- Maintain environmental records, inspections, monitoring, and regulatory reports
- Coordinate contractors, procurement, maintenance, and capital projects
- Promote site safety, customer service, and operational compliance
Requirements:
- Secondary School Diploma or equivalent education and experience
- Five years' progressively responsible operational experience, including supervision
- Safe heavy equipment operation proficiency and physical capacity
- Knowledge of waste legislation, environmental approvals, and safety requirements
- Leadership, communication, judgment, and Microsoft Office skills
