rennie is hiring a Systems & Security Administrator to own and improve a portfolio of business systems, cloud services and hosted infrastructure that our teams rely on every day. This is a hands-on role for an experienced systems administrator who wants breadth, autonomy and meaningful technical problems to solve. Our environment spans Google Workspace, Linux, Proxmox, identity and access, security controls, integrations and automation. You’ll work closely with teams across the business, independently manage assigned technologies, and make our technology environment more reliable, secure and effective.

You’ll be a strong fit if you like getting beneath the surface of technical issues, see how systems connect, and would rather solve a recurring problem properly than keep applying the same workaround.

  • Own and improve assigned business systems and cloud services, keeping them reliable, secure and fit for purpose.
  • Administer Linux-based server and hosted infrastructure, including virtualization and container environments, storage, networking, performance, backup and recovery.
  • Administer assigned identity, access and security controls, including authentication, privileged access, secure configurations, logging and vulnerability remediation.
  • Solve complex technical problems across systems, infrastructure, access and integrations, identifying root causes and implementing durable solutions.
  • Build and improve integrations and automation that reduce manual work and make our technology environment more reliable and maintainable.
  • Lead system implementations and changes, including upgrades, migrations and defined technical projects.
  • Partner with teams across the business to understand operational needs and translate them into practical technical solutions that balance usability, security, reliability and maintainability.
  • Improve the environment over time, identifying opportunities to simplify, standardize, automate or consolidate technology.
  • Enable people to use technology effectively and securely through practical documentation, guidance, training and self-service resources.

OUR TECHNOLOGY ENVIRONMENT

Our environment combines cloud-based business systems with remotely managed hosted infrastructure. Key technologies and capabilities include:

  • Google Workspace
  • Proxmox and other virtualization or container technologies
  • Identity and access technologies including SSO, MFA and privileged access
  • APIs, webhooks, middleware, vendor connectors and low-code automation
  • Networking, firewalls, storage and infrastructure monitoring
  • Backup, replication, restoration and disaster recovery

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in systems administration, application administration, technology operations or a comparable technical role, with responsibility across multiple systems and technologies.
  • Strong hands-on Linux server administration experience in a production environment, including patching, storage, networking and troubleshooting.
  • Experience administering virtualization or container environments, ideally Proxmox or comparable technology.
  • Experience working technically within a Google Workspace environment, with a strong understanding of its administration, identity, access and security capabilities.
  • Practical experience with identity, access and security controls, including authentication, privileged access, secure configuration, logging and vulnerability remediation.
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting system integrations and automation, using tools such as APIs, webhooks, middleware, vendor connectors or low-code platforms.
  • A track record of independently diagnosing complex technical issues and delivering implementations, upgrades, migrations or other significant system changes.
  • Relevant technical education, training or certifications are assets, such as RHCSA or LFCS, Security+ or CySA+, Google Workspace Administrator or Network+.

HOW YOU WORK

  • You listen first: you understand the business need, context and impact before deciding on a technical approach.
  • You solve the underlying problem: you investigate unfamiliar or complex issues, find root causes and favour durable solutions over temporary fixes.
  • You think in systems: you see dependencies and downstream impacts and consider security, reliability and maintainability as part of the solution.
  • You use sound judgment: you balance business impact, urgency, security and risk, and know when to act independently and when to involve others.
  • You take ownership: you follow work through from diagnosis to resolution, keep people informed and care about the experience of those relying on the technology.
  • You look for a better way: you simplify, standardize and automate where it meaningfully improves reliability, security or how work gets done.
  • You stay curious and pragmatic: you keep current on technology and security and focus on capabilities that create real value.
