You will work with experienced data analysts, project managers, technical specialists, field teams, and laboratories to help maintain complete, accurate, and traceable project databases. This is a hybrid position with an expectation of being in the office ~2-3 days per week.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Support several environmental projects at the same time for sites located across North America, while following project-specific requirements, priorities, schedules, and budgets.
  • Receive, organize, review, and manage environmental data from multiple sources, including laboratory-specific electronic data deliverables (EDDs), field-collected data, spatial data, borehole and geological information, and historical records.
  • Perform routine data quality checks to identify missing information, formatting issues, duplicate records, invalid values, unit inconsistencies, and other data anomalies.
  • Load, maintain, query, and extract data using EarthSoft EQuIS, Microsoft Access, and Microsoft SQL Server under established procedures and senior guidance.
  • Apply an understanding of relational database concepts, including tables, keys, joins, and one-to-many relationships, when reviewing, querying, and troubleshooting data.
  • Use knowledge of chemistry, analytical methods, detection limits, units, qualifiers, and laboratory reporting practices to support accurate interpretation and management of environmental analytical data.
  • Prepare routine data summaries, reports, tables, exports, and project deliverables using standard tools, templates, and queries.
  • Communicate with project managers, laboratories, field teams, and other technical staff to obtain required files, resolve data questions, and confirm project requirements.
  • Maintain clear documentation of data receipt, processing, validation, corrections, and delivery to support data traceability and quality assurance.
  • Follow established data management standards, naming conventions, quality procedures, and file-management practices.
  • Manage assigned tasks, track progress, raise questions promptly, and communicate potential schedule or data-quality concerns to the project team.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Foundational knowledge of environmental data management and a strong interest in developing technical database skills.
  • Experience with or exposure to EarthSoft EQuIS, Microsoft Access, and Microsoft SQL Server; equivalent database experience will also be considered.
  • Understanding of relational database concepts, including tables, primary and foreign keys, data types, joins, and relationships between datasets.
  • Good background knowledge of general and environmental chemistry, common laboratory analyses, analytical terminology, units, detection limits, and data qualifiers.
  • Experience working with spreadsheets, structured datasets, laboratory EDDs, or field data is an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy, consistency, completeness, and traceability.
  • Logical problem-solving skills and the ability to investigate data issues methodically.
  • Ability to organize work across multiple projects, manage competing priorities, and meet established deadlines with guidance.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills and the confidence to ask questions when requirements or data are unclear.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative, geographically distributed team.
  • Ability to meet project deadlines and understand how assigned tasks relate to project goals.
  • Ability to maintain and establish effective working relationships.
  • Willingness to learn new software, project requirements, regulatory frameworks, and data management procedures.
  • Familiarity with federal, provincial, state, or municipal environmental guidelines is an asset.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, college diploma, or equivalent training in chemistry, environmental science, environmental studies, geology, geography, or related discipline.
  • Up to two years of relevant experience in environmental data management, analytical chemistry, laboratory data, database support, or a related field; relevant co-op, internship, academic, or project experience is welcome.
