Our client is one of North America’s largest integrated environmental services companies, providing solid waste collection, transfer, disposal and recycling to residential, commercial and industrial customers across Canada and the U.S. They run on a decentralized model with a servant leadership philosophy: local leaders decide on and build the plans, tools and processes their markets need. Vancouver is one of the company's largest and most competitive districts; to support growth and develop future leaders, they are adding a brand-new Assistant District Manager role to lead sales, finance, and operations for the region.

What you’ll do

  • Work with the District Manager to deliver the district’s objectives, action plans and financial results, splitting your time roughly 60% sales and finance and 40% operations.
  • Lead the Sales Manager and their team of ~20 across sales and customer service.
  • Oversee sales plans, territory planning, productivity measures and tracking against goals.
  • Track local market conditions and competitive pricing to identify growth opportunities and produce competitive bids.
  • Take part in large-volume sales and develop tenders; spend time in the field on ride-alongs with reps.
  • Monthly forecasting and annual budget; negotiate disposal and transportation costs and third-party transfer station agreements; administer collective bargaining agreements and take part in labour negotiations.
  • Approve, monitor and develop safety programs and incentives; ride along with drivers to observe and reinforce safety practices.
  • Build relationships with municipal government partners, including presenting to city council when needed.

What you bring

  • 5+ years in sales management or operations leadership, and experience that spans both sales and operations.
  • Financial literacy, with strong planning, forecasting and analytical skills.
  • Strong track record in direct sales and/or implementing operational drivers of sales success.
  • Demonstrated success working across departments and working cross-functionally to diagnose and solve business problems.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with internal teams, customers and city partners.
  • Based in Metro Vancouver, working primarily from the district office with site visits and some early starts.
  • Valid driver's license and vehicle access (business travel will be covered).

Assets

  • Labour relations or unionized workforce experience.
  • Background in waste management, transportation or a related route-based industry (uniforms, janitorial services, facilities management).
  • Experience leading both frontline and office-based teams.
  • Commercial driver’s licence (Class 3, 2 or 1).

What’s offered

  • Base salary of $130,000 - $150,000 (flexibility for experience).
  • 20% annual bonus.
  • Equity (RSUs equal to 20% of base, vesting over three years).
  • Group RRSP with company match, and an employee share purchase plan.
  • Health, dental and vision coverage.
  • A defined path to District Manager, with opportunities across Canada and the U.S. if desired.
