Clinical Externs provide patient-centred care in Complex Care 5 and 8 Tower at St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton's Charlton Campus.
This temporary, part-time position supports an interprofessional team under healthcare professional supervision. Work includes activities of daily living, mobility assistance, vital signs, documentation, and patient assessments. Hours include rotating days, evenings, nights, and weekends.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist patients with feeding, toileting, bathing, and dressing
- Support lifting, turning, positioning, transfers, and ambulation
- Take vital signs, height, and weight
- Report patient status changes and safety concerns
- Document care and notify supervising healthcare professionals
Requirements:
- Enroll in an eligible nursing, occupational therapy, or physiotherapy program
- Hold a current Basic Life Support certificate
- Demonstrate infection prevention and control practices
- Maintain good academic standing and successful clinical learning experiences
- Work required twelve-hour shifts based on seasonal availability requirements
