Our client is a well-established, family-owned construction vendor with operations spanning Ontario, Quebec, and several Great Lakes states. The business operates five distinct units, each serving unique customer bases with varied demand patterns. Known for its close-knit leadership team and strong commitment to employees and customers, the company is seeking a hands-on operations leader to drive performance in a fast-changing delivery environment while contributing to executive-level strategic decisions.
To support the next phase of their continued growth story, they are seeking a Senior Operations Executive - Construction Supply & Transportation to oversee a complex, multi-unit delivery operation. This role combines daily hands-on management with strategic oversight, requiring someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and can balance operational excellence with board-level communication.
Key Responsibilities:
- Transportation Contract Management: Oversee a large outsourced transportation equipment contract, including SLA performance, weekly KPI reviews, and participation in driver hiring decisions.
- Dispatch & Telematics Coordination: Work closely with dispatch to leverage truck tracking data, coordinating arrivals, site readiness, and subsequent loads in real time.
- Dynamic Operations Leadership: Respond to daily changes in traffic conditions, delivery windows, and order quantities—often with less than 24 hours' notice—while maintaining full compliance with driving and hours-of-service regulations.
- Inventory & Pricing Strategy: Lead inventory management, seasonal pricing decisions, and oversee a large customer service team.
- Customer Issue Resolution: Address operational challenges directly with customers while staying closely connected to remote operations directors; some travel to operational locations required.
- Executive Reporting: Participate in weekly management discussions and present plans, results, and performance against budget or strategic plan to the Board of Advisors.
Experience:
- 20+ years of trucking and transportation experience, ideally including yard operations in construction trades, electrical or plumbing supply, or a related industry.
- Proven track record managing fluid, high-volume delivery operations and working directly with customers to resolve operational issues.
- Executive-team experience with a demonstrated ability to contribute to key business decisions and present to senior stakeholders and board members.
Skills & Credentials:
- Advanced Excel, data management, and project management capabilities.
- Hands-on experience with telematics systems, invoicing, budgeting, strategic planning, and capital budgeting.
- Degree in business, logistics, or a related field preferred.
- Professional credentials in supply chain or transportation (e.g., P.Log., CSCMP, or equivalent) strongly valued.
Leadership Style:
A hands-on, practical approach to daily operations is essential. The ideal candidate has built substantial experience with a small number of employers and values long-term relationships, stability, and a collaborative leadership culture.
Competitive base salary commensurate with experience. Performance-based business incentives. Full reimbursement of business-related expenses.
