Role Overview (The “Why” of the Role)
We are looking for a Principal Architect to shape the long-term technical vision and ensure the platform remains robust, secure, and evolvable, while enabling engineering teams to move fast and independently. This is a senior role, acting as a technical steward across engineering, product, and security.
Responsibilities
- Define and evolve the target architecture (identity, services, data, integrations)
- Drive architectural standards, principles, and decision frameworks
- Ensure scalability, performance, security, and compliance (privacy-by-design)
- Lead key technical decisions and architecture reviews (ADRs)
- Partner with Engineering Managers, Tech Leads, Product, and Security
- Guide teams through complex system design without blocking delivery
- Mentor senior engineers and elevate architecture practices
Qualifications & Experience
- 10+ years in software engineering, including large-scale distributed systems
- Strong expertise in backend architecture, APIs, identity (IAM/CIAM)
- Experience with security, privacy, and regulated environments
- Familiarity with Verifiable Credentials, federation, Zero Trust (asset)
- Strong systems thinking and ability to balance trade-offs
