Planar Motor is redefining motion with precision planar magnetic levitation technology. Our industry-leading systems enable ultra-smooth multi-degree-of-freedom movement, serving a wide range of industries from advanced manufacturing to biomedical automation. We are a team of forward-thinking engineers and innovators working at the forefront of control and motion systems. Located in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada, our technology and products have received the Design News Gold Award in 2019 for motors and mechanical motion devices due to their unprecedented flexibility, precision, intelligence, reconfigurability, scalability, and traceability.

We are looking for individuals who are focused on solving novel and complex technical challenges that do not have off-the-shelf solutions. This role requires creativity, persistence, and a deep understanding of fundamental engineering principles. We value candidates with a strong problem-solving mindset who are genuinely passionate about tackling technical challenges. If you enjoy solving complex problems, can embrace uncertainty, and find satisfaction in identifying clear solutions to difficult engineering issues, this position will be a great fit for you.

Main Responsibilities:

  • As an embedded software engineer at Planar Motor, you will be responsible for designing and developing the software systems that serve as the 'brain' of our cutting-edge magnetic levitation robotic platform.
  • Your work will directly determine how the robot thinks, moves, and interacts, covering aspects from intelligent navigation and obstacle avoidance to multi-machine collaboration.
  • You will closely collaborate with hardware and mechatronics teams to create robust and efficient embedded solutions under the constraints of real-time systems and limited hardware resources.
  • Typical responsibilities include:
    • Developing and testing real-time embedded software to support the intelligence of our robotic systems.
    • Enhancing the performance and reliability of the embedded platform through thorough design and rigorous validation.
    • Troubleshooting, debugging, and resolving complex issues to ensure system stability in the field.
    • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to integrate hardware and software into seamless solutions.
    • Participating in code reviews and promoting best practices to maintain high standards of code quality and maintainability.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in developing embedded software using C and C++, with an understanding of software development processes and tools.
  • Experience in embedded software debugging and testing.
  • A bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree in electrical, mechanical, mechatronics, software engineering, engineering physics, or a related field, with an excellent record of engineering practice.
  • Eligibility to work in Canada.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with ARM architecture.
  • Experience in solving concurrency issues.
  • Experience in BareMetal Kernel development.

What We Offer:

  • Outstanding development opportunities in a rapidly growing innovative company.
  • The chance to tackle challenging topics with far-reaching impacts.
  • Mentorship from experienced colleagues.
  • Competitive compensation and benefits.
  • A creative, professional, and positive team atmosphere.

Salary Range: The salary range for this position is CAD 60,000 to CAD 200,000 per year. Our salary range is based on market data, and the actual salary offered will consider various factors, including but not limited to the candidate's relevant knowledge, skills, education, and experience.
