About the Role
Our client, a well-established technology firm, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Software Engineer with a strong background in Java development to join their dedicated team. This position is based in Kimberley, Northern Cape, ZA , and requires the candidate to work from the office. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining robust, scalable, and high-performance enterprise applications. The ideal candidate possesses exceptional coding skills, a deep understanding of software architecture, and a commitment to delivering high-quality solutions. You will play a pivotal role in the full software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering to deployment and support, contributing significantly to the success of critical projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and deploy enterprise-level applications using Java and related frameworks (e.g., Spring Boot).
- Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code according to industry best practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and other engineers.
- Develop and maintain RESTful APIs.
- Work with relational databases and perform SQL query optimization.
- Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing software systems.
- Contribute to architectural discussions and technical decision-making.
- Ensure the performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications.
- Mentor junior engineers and promote engineering excellence.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Senior Software Engineer with a strong focus on Java development.
- Expertise in Java and the Java ecosystem, including Spring Framework (Spring Boot, Spring MVC).
- Solid understanding of object-oriented programming principles and design patterns.
- Experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and ORM frameworks (e.g., Hibernate).
- Familiarity with version control systems, particularly Git.
- Experience with building and consuming RESTful web services.
- Knowledge of software testing methodologies and frameworks (e.g., JUnit, Mockito).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
