Key Responsibilities
- Design and synthesize novel small molecules with desired pharmacological properties using advanced synthetic organic chemistry techniques.
- Optimize lead compounds through iterative design, synthesis, and testing cycles to improve potency, selectivity, and pharmacokinetic profiles.
- Collaborate with biologists and pharmacologists to establish and execute in vitro and in vivo assays for compound evaluation.
- Utilize structure-activity relationship (SAR) data and computational chemistry tools to guide compound design.
- Manage external synthesis activities and collaborations with contract research organizations (CROs).
- Troubleshoot synthetic challenges and develop innovative solutions to complex chemical problems.
- Characterize synthesized compounds using spectroscopic techniques (NMR, MS) and analytical methods (HPLC).
- Contribute to the intellectual property strategy through patent filings and scientific publications.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in medicinal chemistry, synthetic methodologies, and drug discovery trends.
- Mentor junior chemists and contribute to a collaborative and high-performing research team.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or a closely related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of post-doctoral or industry experience in drug discovery, with a focus on medicinal chemistry.
- Proven expertise in synthetic organic chemistry, including a wide range of reaction methodologies and purification techniques.
- Demonstrated experience in designing and optimizing small molecules for biological targets.
- Familiarity with SAR analysis, computational chemistry tools, and DMPK properties.
- Experience working in a cross-functional drug discovery team.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to present scientific findings effectively.
- Proficiency in standard laboratory equipment and analytical techniques (NMR, MS, HPLC).
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple research projects concurrently.
