Senior Animation Director – Remote in Kimberley

About the Role

Our client, a globally recognized leader in digital media and entertainment, is seeking an exceptional Senior Animation Director to join their expanding, fully remote team.

This is a unique opportunity to lead the creative vision and execution of high-profile animated projects from concept through to final delivery, all from the comfort of your own home office.

You will be responsible for guiding a talented team of animators, storyboard artists, and character designers, ensuring artistic integrity and technical excellence across all aspects of production.

This role demands a visionary leader with a deep understanding of animation pipelines, storytelling, and visual aesthetics within the Arts & Entertainment domain.

You will collaborate closely with producers and other department heads to deliver captivating animated content that pushes creative boundaries.

As a fully remote position, we are looking for individuals who are highly self-motivated, disciplined, and possess excellent remote communication skills, based anywhere but contributing to projects developed for audiences worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and drive the artistic style and vision for animated projects, ensuring consistency and quality throughout the production pipeline.
• Lead, mentor, and inspire a remote team of animators, storyboard artists, modelers, and riggers.
• Oversee the animation process, ensuring high standards of character performance, motion, and visual storytelling.
• Collaborate with writers and producers to translate scripts and storyboards into compelling visual narratives.
• Provide clear and constructive feedback to the animation team on a daily basis.
• Manage animation schedules and milestones, ensuring timely delivery of assets and sequences.
• Work closely with the technical team to troubleshoot and optimize animation tools and workflows for remote production.
• Conduct regular reviews and approval sessions with stakeholders to ensure alignment with project goals.
• Stay current with advancements in animation technology and techniques, and advocate for their adoption when appropriate.
• Contribute to the development of new project concepts and pitches.

Requirements

• Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in animation, with at least 3 years in a directorial or lead role within the Arts & Entertainment industry.
• Proven ability to lead and manage remote creative teams effectively.
• Exceptional portfolio showcasing outstanding character animation, visual storytelling, and directing skills.
• Deep understanding of 2D and/or 3D animation pipelines, software (e. g., Maya, Blender, Toon Boom Harmony), and rendering processes.
• Strong grasp of cinematography, composition, color theory, and visual design principles.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and feedback skills, particularly in a remote setting.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced production environment.
• A Bachelor's degree in Animation, Film, Fine Arts, or a related field is highly preferred.
• Experience with game development or visual effects pipelines is a significant plus.
• Passion for creating engaging and innovative animated content.
• Must be proficient with remote collaboration tools (e. g., Slack, Zoom, Shot Grid).
