About the Role
Our client is seeking a results-oriented Farm Business Consultant to provide strategic advice and support to agricultural producers in the Kimberley, Northern Cape region. This role involves working closely with farm owners and managers to improve business performance, profitability, and sustainability. You will assess current farm operations, identify areas for improvement, and develop tailored business plans covering financial management, marketing, operational efficiency, and risk mitigation.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of agricultural practices combined with business acumen and excellent client relationship skills. This is a client-facing role requiring regular on-site visits to farms within the Kimberley area and surrounding districts, ensuring practical and effective solutions are implemented. Your expertise will be crucial in helping local farmers navigate market challenges and optimize their operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of farm businesses, including financial health, operational efficiency, and strategic positioning.
- Develop customized business plans and strategies for clients to enhance profitability and sustainability.
- Provide expert advice on financial management, budgeting, cash flow planning, and investment analysis.
- Assist clients in developing marketing strategies and identifying new market opportunities.
- Identify operational inefficiencies and recommend improvements in production processes, resource allocation, and technology adoption.
- Advise on risk management strategies, including crop insurance, diversification, and financial hedging.
- Facilitate access to relevant information, resources, and support services for farm businesses.
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with clients.
- Stay informed about agricultural industry trends, market dynamics, and regulatory changes affecting the Northern Cape.
- Prepare and deliver presentations and reports on business performance and strategic recommendations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Business Administration, Agricultural Business Management, or a related field. A Master's degree is an advantage.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in farm management, agricultural consulting, or a related business advisory role.
- Strong understanding of agricultural production systems and economics.
- Proven experience in business planning, financial analysis, and strategic development.
- Excellent client management and communication skills.
- Proficiency in business management software and MS Office Suite.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and travel regularly to client sites in the Kimberley area.
