This is a new vacancy. We are currently seeking the ideal candidate to join our team as the Development Manager. This position supports our operations in a variety of ways, including strengthening our donor roster, working with the managers to identify program needs, grant searches and submitting applications, and supporting the Executive Director with events and profile building.
Who We Are
Parkdale Community Food Bank (PCFB) is a non-profit, registered charity in the heart of Toronto’s Parkdale neighbourhood. Every month, our programs support more than 17,000 individuals with access to nutritious food and community support. We believe joy is fundamental to nourishment, and our mission is to create a hunger-free community where everyone has a place at our table, with barrier-free access to food they actually want to eat.
Mission of This Role
Every dollar PCFB raises turns into a grocery bag, a delivery, or a moment of dignity for someone who needed it. This role builds and holds those relationships, the grant that comes through, the donor who gives again year after year, the sponsor who says yes to a second event, and turns them into something PCFB can count on. You support the strategy behind that growth, building a base of grants, donors, and sponsors who believe in the work and keep showing up for it, diversifying support so PCFB's future never rests on a single relationship or funding source. This role reports and works closely with the Executive Director, leads fundraising strategy, donor relations, and grant management across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Fundraising & Planning: Develop and lead PCFB's overall fundraising strategy, including donor prospecting, revenue diversification, and new initiatives to support long-term financial sustainability. Diversify revenue streams across grants, individual giving, corporate sponsorships, and events to reduce reliance on any single funding source. Develop and execute fundraising campaigns, including direct mail and digital appeals, monthly giving, and planned giving initiatives.
- Donor Relations & Stewardship: Manage a portfolio of donors and prospects, developing strategies to cultivate relationships, increase contributions, and encourage long-term support. Manage day-to-day donor relations, including regular donor check-ins and ongoing stewardship of major and recurring donors. Develop and maintain relationships with funding partners, such as United Way of Greater Toronto, Daily Bread, and private foundations. Ensure timely donor acknowledgments and ongoing communication of PCFB's impact.
- Grant Writing & Reporting: Manage the full grant cycle, including prospect research, proposal development, budget preparation, submission, and reporting. Coordinate with the Managing Director to gather program information, impact data, and supporting materials for funding applications. Track grant reporting deadlines and ensure compliance with funder agreements and reporting requirements.
- Events & Campaigns: Plan and execute fundraising events and campaigns to a high standard and within budget. Manage relationships with third-party fundraising organizers, including the Toronto Running Series, and support community members and businesses interested in fundraising for PCFB. Develop fundraising initiatives throughout the year that grow PCFB's profile, community engagement, and brand awareness. Evaluate event and campaign performance, identifying opportunities to increase revenue, improve ROI, and strengthen supporter engagement.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Work with the Managing Director to compile program impact data and collect client and volunteer stories for campaigns and events. Coordinate with the Communications Coordinator on donor-facing communications, campaign materials, and fundraising appeals. Develop and maintain a donor stewardship and communications calendar. Provide the Executive Director and Board of Directors with regular updates on fundraising progress against targets.
- Administration & Reporting: Maintain accurate donor records and fundraising data in DonorPerfect. Oversee donation tracking, verification, acknowledgment, and tax receipting. Monitor fundraising revenue, campaign expenses, and performance against established targets. Conduct post-campaign and event evaluations to inform future fundraising activities.
- Other duties as required by the organization.
Qualifications
- Must-Haves: Experience leading fundraising and donor relations for a non-profit or charity, including grant writing and donor strategy. Comfort building and maintaining relationships with funders, from first outreach through ongoing stewardship. Experience planning and executing fundraising events or campaigns within budget. Comfort tracking and reporting on fundraising progress against goals.
- Nice-to-Haves: Familiarity with the Toronto food security or non-profit sector. Experience diversifying revenue streams across grants, individual giving, and corporate sponsorship.
