Overview

Northern Health is seeking a Family Practitioner Anesthetist to provide Anesthesia care in Hazelton, BC at Wrinch Memorial Hospital and Medical Clinic. The FP-Anesthetists provide regular Anesthesia services for visiting surgeons from nearby communities. There is opportunity to combine your Anesthesia practice with Primary Care and/or Emergency.

The Wrinch Medical Staff provides full-scope care to the region and is made up of 10-12 Family Physicians filling 7.5 FTE, 1 GP-Anesthetist, 2 Nurse Practitioners, and 2 Registered Midwives who have an incredibly collaborative model of care.

In spring 2020, the Physicians and Nurse Practitioners implemented a Provider Partnership model wherein each part time GP was paired with another provider. Each provider is responsible for their own patient panel, however in their absence they are able to rely on their partner to help cover urgent cases and check in on critical results. Partners work together to ensure appropriate cross coverage for time off. This model has had a positive impact on clinic processes, continuity of care and access to care. The selected candidate for this position will be paired with an existing provider to ensure a smooth onboarding experience.

Teaching is a time honored tradition in Hazelton. There is an ongoing rotation of Medical Students, Nurse Practitioner Students, Midwifery Students and Medical Residents. Many of our providers also do outreach clinics once a week in the outlying communities (Sik-e-dakh, Anxpayawx, Gitsegukla, Gitwangak, Gitanyow) at the on-reserve Health Stations. Learners will often be scheduled to accompany their preceptors for these clinics.
