The successful candidate will develop recommendations and influence system verification and validation for an advanced low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite communications system. The position requires working on-site in Gatineau, Quebec, a minimum of four (4) days per week.
Main Responsibilities
- Develop verification matrices for feeder and user link system requirements, including spectrum usage, carrier sizes, polarization, and power control.
- Validate link establishment, maintenance, and degradation scenarios.
- Design and execute tests for feeder/user link coverage and elevation limits, spectrum assignment by user terminal (UT) and landing station (LS) location, and link behavior under fading, interference, and outage conditions.
- Act as the Link Layer subject matter expert for DVB-S2X, DVB-RCS2, and Ka-band link operation.
- Perform hands-on link testing in a LEO satellite laboratory, including channel emulation, link impairments, carrier aggregation, and spectrum flexibility.
- Configure and operate satellite link emulators, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and traffic generators.
- Verify that products under test meet technical, functional, performance, and business requirements.
- Work with antenna vendors, modem teams, and RF engineers to validate end-to-end link behavior.
- Support over-the-air (OTA) testing plans and execution for feeder and user links.
- Support System Acceptance Planning activities for Launch and Early Orbit Phase (LEOP) and In-Orbit Testing (IOT).
- Collaborate with DevOps, Ground Systems, and Satellite teams to support innovative, coordinated verification activities.
Education And Required Experience
- B.Sc. in Electrical, Computer, or Systems Engineering and a minimum of one year of relevant satellite communications experience.
- 5+ years of work with antenna types such as flat-panel, parabolic, and aero antennas, preferably in Ka-band.
- 5+ years in satellite RF communication systems, including modulation and coding standards such as DVB-S2(X) and DVB-RCS2.
- Strong knowledge of RF principles, design practices, and feeder/user link testing and validation.
- Hands-on RF test equipment experience: oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and satellite channel emulators.
- Strong understanding of Ka-band link budgets, polarization, adaptive coding and modulation (ACM), and interference effects.
- Knowledge of air interfaces, modems, modulation and coding, and satellite link performance.
- Experience with satellite link budget analysis and link impairments.
- Experience with Jira, Jama, or similar test/defect tracking tools.
