Hi, I'm Angela , the Finance Manager at Musora Media.
Musora’s five platforms, Drumeo, Pianote, Guitareo, Singeo and PlayBass, teach people around the world to play an instrument. Behind every lesson, membership and shipment is a small Finance team that keeps the numbers accurate, on time and useful to the people making decisions.
Like many finance teams, ours spends much of its time on the day-to-day, and AI is changing what that day-to-day can look like. We’re pursuing a zero-day close, where the books are ready the moment the month ends, and we’re using AI to automate the manual steps that slow us down today. This role is at the centre of that work. You’ll be a major contributor to our month-end close and financial reporting, a hands-on support across payroll, payables and receivables, and the owner of projects we’ve wanted to tackle for a while, starting with our capital asset program. Along the way, you’ll build the processes and systems that make our work faster, more accurate and more interesting.
You’ll report to me and work closely with the rest of the Finance team, and with people across the company who rely on our numbers. If you’re a self-starter who likes clean reconciliations as much as building something new, we’d like to hear from you.
Requirements
What you will do:
Own month-end close and financial reporting
Be a core contributor to the monthly close: prepare and post journal entries, accruals and prepaids, and complete balance sheet reconciliations on schedule.
Prepare month-end working papers, including revenue, deferred revenue and other complex balances, so they’re clear enough to stand up to review and audit.
With the Finance Manager, build and prepare financial reports for our stakeholders, including the leadership team, lenders and our external accountants.
Analyze variances against budget and prior periods, and explain what is driving the numbers, not just what they are.
Find and fix the friction points in the close: document processes, tighten timelines and suggest automation where it helps.
Help design and build AI-assisted workflows that move us toward a zero-day close, from automated reconciliations to faster reporting.
Support payroll, payables and receivables
Help with payroll processes as needed, including reviewing payroll journal entries and reconciling payroll-related accounts.
Support accounts payable workflows in Tipalti: invoice coding, approvals, vendor questions and payment runs.
Support accounts receivable and cash application, including reconciling payment processor and platform payouts to the general ledger.
Act as a backup across these processes so the team has coverage when someone is away.
Lead our capital asset program
Lead our capital asset project from start to finish: build a physical inventory of Musora’s capital assets (studio equipment, production gear, computers and leasehold improvements) and a tagging system to track them.
Reconcile that inventory to the fixed asset balances in our financial statements, and resolve any differences.
Help formalize our capitalization policy, useful lives and amortization schedules, and set up a process that keeps the register accurate as assets are bought, moved and retired.
Take on special projects
Contribute to other Finance projects as the role grows, such as project accounting for artist shoots and studio builds, gift card accounting, tax compliance support and system improvements.
Handle ad hoc analysis and requests from across the business.
What you bring!
Demonstrated ability to exemplify the company’s core values: Empathy, Passion and Grit.
CPA designation, or currently enrolled in the CPA program.
3+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally a mix of public accounting and industry.
Hands‑on experience owning parts of the month‑end close: journal entries, reconciliations, accruals and financial statement preparation.
Solid working knowledge of ASPE (or IFRS) and how it applies to day‑to‑day transactions.
Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills: you’re comfortable building schedules and reports from raw data.
A self‑starter who can run a project with little guidance, from planning it to reporting progress against milestones.
Detail‑oriented and accurate, without losing sight of the bigger picture.
Interest in automation and AI tools for finance work.
A clear communicator who can explain accounting topics to people outside Finance.
Proficiency in the English language (written and verbal).
Nice to haves
Experience with Sage Intacct, Tipalti, UKG and/or Shopify.
Experience building or cleaning up a fixed asset register.
Exposure to subscription or deferred revenue accounting.
Experience with multi‑entity books, intercompany transactions or USD and CAD reporting.
You play an instrument.
