Motorola Solutions’ Video Division is defining the future of the security industry through innovative end-to-end solutions. We aren't just adding AI features to our products—we are pioneering an AI-First software engineering culture. From advanced, award-winning video analytics like Appearance Search and Visual Alerts, we architect our systems from the ground up to maximize the power of Artificial Intelligence.

We are seeking a Principal Software Developer who shares this AI-First mindset to provide hands‑on technical leadership across both cloud and on‑premise platforms. In this role, you will leverage your deep expertise in C++ and C# to architect high-performance, large-scale applications and APIs that natively support machine learning pipelines, intelligent workflows, and automated decision-making. Beyond core product architecture, you will champion modern engineering practices—integrating DevOps, CI/CD, and test automation to rapidly deploy and iterate on complex, public-facing systems. This position is based in Vancouver, BC, and the candidate must reside in the Greater Vancouver area, as you will be required to go into the office on a hybrid work schedule.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive technical leadership and architectural governance across the Video Division.
  • Architectural Governance & Strategy: Translate complex business objectives and product requirements into scalable, reliable system architectures.
  • Partner with Product Management, Security, and Engineering leadership to evaluate technical trade-offs and mitigate long-term systemic risks.
  • Define the long-term technical vision and architectural roadmap for our next-generation cloud and on-premise streaming platforms.
  • Providing end-to-end software solutions, encompassing design, architecture, implementation, maintenance, and user support.
  • Own systemic non-functional requirements including scalability, high availability, ultra-low latency media delivery, and hardware-software isolation.
  • Architect end-to-end product observability (metrics, logs, and distributed tracing) to transform operational telemetry into actionable data for informed engineering and product decisions.
  • Building trust among team members and mentoring to champion a culture of continuous learning and growth.
  • Fostering strong collaborative relationships with fellow developers and technical leadership.
  • Proactively providing technical guidance and mentorship.
  • Upholding rigorous standards for software development and quality, both personally and across the teams.

  • Experience working in a large code base.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience using an AI first approach to software development.
  • Deep expertise in distributed systems architecture, microservices, and high-throughput real-time data/media streaming protocols.
  • Strong knowledge of CI/CD, test automation, Observability, and DevOps.
  • Experience working with databases (Berkeley, Postgres).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Successful delivery of a large-scale public-facing application.
  • Experience developing cloud applications in Azure.
  • Experience developing applications in one of C++, Rust, C#, and .NET.
