A well-established Canadian organization specializing in complex demolition and construction projects is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to join its Calgary team. This is a senior-level opportunity for an experienced project professional with a background in demolition or heavy civil construction. The successful candidate will take ownership of projects from award through completion, overseeing project execution, financial performance, scheduling, resources, contracts, and client relationships.

Working closely with the Superintendent, Estimating, Project Coordination, Engineering, and Health & Safety teams, you will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in line with established financial and contractual objectives. The role is primarily project and site focused, with a regular presence on active project sites and the opportunity to take ownership of complex projects from start to finish.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage demolition and construction projects from award through to completion and closeout
  • Take ownership of overall project performance, including scope, schedule, budget, productivity, and profitability
  • Develop and maintain project budgets, forecasts, schedules, and resource plans
  • Monitor project costs, production, progress, and financial performance throughout the project lifecycle
  • Identify and address variances, risks, delays, and potential cost impacts
  • Work closely with Superintendents to coordinate labour, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and other project resources
  • Oversee subcontractor scopes, performance, procurement, and invoice approvals
  • Coordinate the purchase and delivery of required equipment, materials, and services
  • Review contracts, drawings, specifications, and project documentation
  • Manage change orders, contractual requirements, and project-related negotiations
  • Lead project meetings and maintain strong communication with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams
  • Provide direction and support to Project Coordinators and other project team members
  • Work closely with Engineering and Health & Safety to ensure project plans are translated into safe and effective site execution
  • Prepare regular project reporting and communicate key financial, operational, and scheduling updates to leadership
  • Maintain a regular presence on site to monitor progress, productivity, and overall project performance
  • Support projects through final completion, documentation, and closeout

About the Projects

The organization delivers complex demolition projects across a range of environments, including industrial projects and infrastructure and heavy civil work. Projects can range from approximately three to four months through to one or two years, depending on scope and complexity. The work is highly planned and technical, with engineering and project teams developing the approach before execution. Projects are generally completed using specialized machinery and controlled demolition methods rather than explosives.

What You Bring

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in demolition or heavy civil construction, including significant project management experience
  • Direct experience within the demolition industry is strongly preferred
  • Candidates with significant civil construction experience who have worked closely with demolition projects may also be considered
  • College or university education in Construction, Engineering, Project Management, or a related discipline
  • Strong experience managing project budgets, forecasting, cost control, and overall financial performance
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects independently from award through completion
  • Strong understanding of demolition or heavy civil construction methods, sequencing, and site operations
  • Experience reviewing contracts, drawings, specifications, and managing change orders
  • Proven ability to coordinate Superintendents, subcontractors, suppliers, Project Coordinators, and other stakeholders
  • Strong commercial and financial awareness with an understanding of project profitability and cost management
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Strong client management and communication skills
  • Comfortable working in a field-based, site-driven environment
  • Experience with construction project management systems or software is considered an asset

Why Consider This Opportunity

  • Senior-level ownership of complex and technically challenging projects
  • Opportunity to work closely with experienced field, engineering, and safety teams
  • Significant exposure to both project execution and financial management
  • Opportunity to work on projects ranging from multi-month assignments to large-scale projects lasting one to two years
  • Collaborative environment with a strong focus on safety, accountability, and project performance
  • Primarily site and project focused rather than office-based
  • $120,000 - $140,000 base salary, depending on experience
  • Bonus opportunity following two years
  • Healthcare coverage from day one
  • 3% pension matching after one year
  • Three weeks of vacation, with potential for additional vacation based on experience

This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Project Manager who wants meaningful ownership over complex projects and enjoys working closely with both field and project teams. The successful candidate will be a highly experienced construction professional who is comfortable operating independently, understands the financial side of project delivery, and can effectively manage the competing priorities that come with complex demolition and heavy civil projects.
