Our client, a global leader in hydraulic technology and electro-hydraulic control systems, is seeking a Control Software Developer to join its engineering team in Mississauga, Ontario. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced controls professional who enjoys developing software that directly impacts how industrial equipment and mobile machinery operate. Rather than focusing solely on programming, this individual will be involved in bringing complete control solutions to life, from electrical design and software development through system integration and commissioning.

The role offers significant ownership over the software side of engineering projects, with opportunities to work on vehicle control systems, motion control applications, PLC programming, and HMI development. You’ll collaborate with engineering teams across North America and Europe while helping deliver customized solutions for demanding applications.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Take ownership of software development for industrial and mobile equipment control systems, from initial design through implementation.
  • Design electrical control architectures and develop schematics to support new systems and applications.
  • Build and configure PLC, HMI, and PC-based control solutions using CODESYS, Structured Text, and C programming.
  • Integrate controllers, sensors, actuators, and other electronic components using CAN bus, J1939, CANopen, ISOBUS, and EtherNet/IP.
  • Develop control logic and user interfaces for vehicle control, motion control, and other specialized machinery applications.
  • Troubleshoot software and electrical issues, perform system testing, and support equipment commissioning.
  • Partner with engineering teams to develop and refine prototypes and application-specific control solutions.

What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience in controls engineering, embedded controls, industrial automation, or mobile equipment software development.
  • Strong background in PLC programming, HMI development, and electrical controls design.
  • Experience with CODESYS, Structured Text, and C programming.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication networks, particularly CAN bus, J1939, CANopen, ISOBUS, or EtherNet/IP.
  • Experience integrating and commissioning control systems for industrial equipment or mobile machinery.
  • Understanding of motion control systems, controller interfaces, and electrical schematics.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to manage technical projects with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with hydraulics, fluid power, proportional valves, or electro-hydraulic controls is preferred but not required.

Location & Travel

Mississauga, Ontario - On-site position. Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:00 PM. Approximately 25% travel, primarily throughout North America with occasional international travel.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: CAD $82,000-$100,000, depending on experience.
  • Performance-based bonus opportunity.
  • Health insurance and RRSP program.
  • Tuition reimbursement and professional development opportunities.
  • Business travel reimbursement.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

  • Own the software development process for specialized industrial and mobile control systems.
  • Work on technically challenging projects combining software, electronics, and hydraulic technology.
  • Gain exposure to a broad range of applications rather than repetitive programming assignments.
  • Collaborate with international engineering teams and contribute to customized engineering solutions.
  • Join an established global manufacturer with a strong reputation for innovation and engineering excellence.
