We’re on the hunt for a Material & Process Technical Specialist on our Satellite systems team at our Montreal office. As the leading global independent commercial supplier of antennas, payloads, and electronics for communication and radar satellites, our team has successfully contributed to hundreds of missions in the past 60 years.

Role: Join a multidisciplinary engineering team contributing to the development of advanced spacecraft and satellite electronic subsystems. As a Material and Processes (M&P) Specialist, you will support design, manufacturing, production, and quality teams in the selection, validation, and qualification of materials and processes for space applications. This role combines technical expertise, problem solving, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure compliance with applicable requirements and the robustness of proposed solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Select, evaluate, and document materials used in space systems, including metals, polymers, composites, adhesives, and coatings.
  • Verify material and process compliance with applicable requirements, including outgassing, contamination, cleanliness, traceability, and relevant ECSS, NASA, ASTM, or MIL-STD standards.
  • Contribute to the qualification of special processes and the development of manufacturing processes such as bonding, surface treatments, coatings, and assemblies.
  • Support validation, testing, technical investigations, root cause analysis, non-conformance reviews, and corrective action activities.
  • Collaborate with design, production, integration, quality, and supplier teams to integrate M&P constraints into technical solutions.
  • Participate in technical reviews, approved materials list management, and continuous improvement of M&P practices.

Qualifications Required:

  • More than five years of experience in material selection, process engineering, aerospace manufacturing, or a related field.
  • Good knowledge of materials and processes used in aerospace environments, such as composites, metals, coatings, adhesives, surface treatments, welding, or additive manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with standards and requirements applicable to the space industry, including ECSS, NASA-STD, ASTM, or equivalent standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze technical issues, propose practical solutions, and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including design, production, quality, integration, and suppliers.
  • Knowledge of space environments, corrosion, electronic manufacturing, contamination control, and/or special process qualification is considered a strong asset.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, in French and English.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, material science, mechanical engineering, or an equivalent discipline.

Special Considerations:

  • Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the reliability status level, and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP).
  • MDA provides competitive compensation and benefits packages for its employees at all locations.
  • MDA is proud to provide accommodation(s) during the recruitment process.
