Role Overview

The Accounting Manager will work to provide day-to-day leadership of the Accounting team and raise the technical bar. This role exists to give the Accounting team a dedicated leader, to shorten and de-risk the close, and to bring firm-grade technical rigour to judgement areas that currently escalates to the Controller.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the month-end and quarter-end close: own the calendar, review reconciliations and journal entries, and drive cycle-time reduction without loss of quality.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop the Staff Accountants; own their workload allocation, review, and performance development.
  • Serve as first-line technical resource on revenue, leases, equity, capitalization, and accruals.
  • Own the balance sheet review process and the integrity of account reconciliations.
  • Lead Consolidated Audit preparation and act as day-to-day contact for external audit fieldwork.
  • Help the Controller with Statutory Audit preparation by facilitating sample selection and responding to Auditor queries in a timely manner.
  • Strengthen internal controls, document processes, and drive automation of manual close activity.

What We're Looking For

  • CPA required.
  • Public accounting background is strongly preferred, including Assurance experience at a national or Big Four firm, ideally with a move into industry.
  • Exceptional technical depth under US GAAP; able to research a position, document it, and defend it to auditors.
  • 5+ years relevant experience including demonstrated supervision or review of others' work.
  • Experience managing a team with excellent problem-solving and research skills.
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to collaborate both internally and externally.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with accounting software is an asset; NetSuite experience is preferred.
  • Software, SaaS, or technology-sector exposure considered an asset.

Compensation & Benefits

The Compensation range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. Please note that the actual compensation may vary depending on location and job-related factors such as qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills. If you are applying for this role outside of the primary location and you are selected for an interview, the Talent Acquisition Partner can share more information with you.

If the compensation structure for the role includes an incentive component (i.e. most Sales roles) the range below represents total target compensation (TTC) (base salary + variable). Ensure this is formatted as "normal" $110,000 - $125,000 (Currency i.e. 'CDN') a year Salary range (min - max).

Magnet is proud to offer benefits such as:

  • Generous time off policies.
  • Competitive compensation.
  • Volunteer opportunities.
  • Reward and recognition programs.
  • Employee committees & resource groups.
  • Healthcare and retirement benefits.

We're looking for someone who checks off most, but not all, of the boxes listed in "skills and experiences". It's more important to us to find candidates who can display indicators of success.
