The Faculty of Arts and Science invites applications for an entry-level, full-time, tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing July 1, 2027, subject to final budgetary approval. The Faculty is seeking a faculty member with Indigenous lived experience who is grounded in Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing, and who can contribute to the teaching and scholarly mission of one or more departments, depending on the disciplinary expertise of the candidate.

You will teach courses in your area of expertise, as well as contribute to course offerings in our Indigegogy minor. Built through consultation with Indigenous scholars and Knowledge Keepers, the Indigegogy minor offers a unique, multi-disciplinary program that puts Indigenous knowledge, experience and cultural perspectives at the heart of the program. The Faculty is committed to expanding our curriculum to incorporate Indigenous perspectives and ways of knowing, and as such will consider applicants from the full range of disciplines represented in the BA and BSc.

You will teach six courses per year in our BA and/or BSc programs, as well as engage in scholarship or creative activity as appropriate to your disciplinary background. You will also engage in academic service to your department or Faculty. You will demonstrate a primary commitment to undergraduate teaching and an ongoing research program. Having, or being close to completion of, a terminal degree in your area of expertise is preferred.

You will submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching dossier (including recent teaching evaluations or other proof of effective teaching), statement of research interests, and sample of scholarly work. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted by the Department Chair to provide three (3) letters of reference sent directly from referees. Only selected candidates will be required to submit official transcripts sent directly from the institutions where you completed your degrees. Shortlisted candidates may also be asked to provide evidence of their ability to collaborate with Indigenous communities through examples of previous collaboration, or a letter of support from an Indigenous community.

Questions about this opportunity may be addressed to Kevin Friesen, Associate Dean, Operations, at FriesenK8@macewan.ca. This position is included under the Faculty Association collective agreement. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.
