As a Senior Launch Pad Operations Engineer, you will be contributing to our new launch site in Canada from the start, through supporting design, build-up and commissioning of the launch pad systems up to performing launch operations of our Spectrum Vehicle once the site is operational.

During the build-up and commissioning phase of our new launch pad, you will be supporting the engineering teams responsible for the design of the launch pad ground systems in Germany and be responsible for the planning and timely execution of the commissioning activities.

During the operational phase, you will be part of the local team responsible for the maintenance, preparation and operation of our launch infrastructure, and actively participating in launch campaigns, operating ground and vehicle systems during launch countdowns.

This position is based in Canso, Nova Scotia. During the initial launch site development phase, flexible working arrangements may be required. The role includes an extended onboarding and training period at our headquarters in Germany or at our launch site in Norway, before transitioning to Canso as local operations are established.

Your Role in Our Space Mission:

  • Launch Pad Build-up and Commissioning: Support build-up on-site, and lead the commissioning planning and its execution in close collaboration with our design and engineering teams in Germany.
  • Launch Campaigns: Play a key role in launching our Spectrum vehicle from preparatory work, over ensuring pad readiness to operating the ground and vehicle systems during launch countdown.
  • Process Improvement: Develop and improve procedures and processes to ensure smooth, safe and efficient operations.
  • High-Quality Standards: Maintaining high-quality standards while handling flight hardware and working on systems interfacing with the launch vehicle.
  • Team build-up: Supporting building the local operations team, potentially developing into a leadership role.

Qualification Checklist:

  • Relevant engineering qualification or engineering bachelor’s or master’s degree in the field of aerospace, mechanical engineering or similar.
  • Hands-on experience in development or testing of complex systems, preferably involving extreme operating conditions and special requirements such as cryogenic temperatures, high pressures, high temperatures or hazardous materials (flammable or explosive).
  • Experience in data acquisition, reduction and evaluation (preferably involving Python).
  • Understanding of the design process of fluid and mechanical systems from theoretical concept to realization, commissioning and operation.
  • Experience in operations planning and ability to manage tight timelines.
  • Experience with multidisciplinary troubleshooting.
  • Ability to perform in high-stress environments, maintaining focus for long durations.
  • Highly organised, effective team player with high attention to detail.
  • Able to adjust self-sufficiently and quickly to a highly dynamic work environment.
  • Physical dexterity is required as working in confined spaces is necessary (including the ability to lift 25kg without assistance).
  • Fluency in English.

Bonus Skills:

  • Hands-on experience with fluid systems and piping/tubing.
  • Knowledge of rocket propulsion systems and/or structures.
