Insight Global is looking for a Control Room Operator to join a leading renewable energy organization. This individual will be responsible for the real-time monitoring and operation of utility-scale solar (PV) and battery energy storage (BESS) facilities.
The Control Room Operator will monitor assets through SCADA and EMS platforms, respond to alarms and operational events, coordinate with field technicians and grid operators, and ensure facilities are operating safely, reliably, and in compliance with applicable standards. This is a fast-paced environment requiring strong situational awareness and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and control solar PV and BESS facilities in real time using SCADA and EMS platforms.
- Monitor equipment including switches, breakers, inverters, trackers, sensors, meters, and system alarms.
- Respond to operational events including outages, curtailments, derates, and system disturbances.
- Execute switching orders, dispatch instructions, and plant commands in coordination with grid and transmission operators.
- Coordinate with field technicians, plant teams, grid operators, and scheduling coordinators during maintenance, outages, and emergency situations.
- Maintain accurate operational logs, incident documentation, outage reporting, and performance records.
- Follow established operating procedures and support compliance with NERC Reliability Standards and ISO 9001 quality standards.
- Follow applicable cyber, physical security, health, safety, and environmental procedures.
- Assist with troubleshooting and root cause analysis related to system disturbances and outages.
Skills and Requirements
- Post-secondary diploma in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience working in a customer or supplier service environment.
- Previous experience with SCADA and/or EMS systems.
- Understanding of solar PV and/or BESS operations.
- Knowledge or exposure to NERC Reliability Standards.
- Previous experience within utilities, power generation, renewable energy, or control room operations.
