Description

The Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer (Exa CC) Database Administrator (DBA) consultant will support a multi-year initiative to implement and operationalize Exa CC as an enterprise database platform for multiple applications and business services.

The successful candidate will be a hands‑on technical implementer with deep Oracle database engineering expertise and demonstrated experience delivering Exa CC environments from implementation through database migration and onboarding, stabilization, and transition to production operations.

Responsibilities

  • Exa CC Implementation and Technical Delivery
  • Participate in technical planning and implement Exa CC database environments in accordance with approved strategy and architecture, security standards, prerequisites, and delivery plans.
  • Coordinate with platform/infrastructure teams and Oracle support on Exa CC provisioning, connectivity, lifecycle activities, configuration, and technical issue resolution.
  • Validate environment readiness, database prerequisites, network connectivity, access, monitoring, backup/recovery, and operational dependencies before onboarding workloads.
  • Develop implementation plans, runbooks, test plans, rollback procedures, cutover plans, and technical documentation.
  • Troubleshoot implementation issues across the database, RAC, ASM, Exadata, OCI connectivity, and related service components.
  • Database Migration, Onboarding and Cutover
  • Assess source databases and application dependencies for migration to Exa CC, including versions, configurations, database size, growth, workload characteristics, availability requirements, and compatibility considerations.
  • Develop and execute database migration and onboarding plans, including migration method selection, prerequisites, rehearsal, validation, cutover, rollback, and post-migration verification.
  • Coordinate with application owners and technical teams to schedule migrations, manage dependencies, minimize business disruption, and confirm application connectivity and functionality after cutover.
  • Validate database objects, data consistency, performance, security, jobs, interfaces, and operational monitoring following migration.
  • Maintain migration records, issue logs, acceptance evidence, and lessons learned; support remediation of migration‑related defects.
  • Oracle Golden Gate Implementation and Replication
  • Design, configure, implement, and troubleshoot Oracle Golden Gate replication for approved use cases, including source/target preparation, Extract and Replicat configuration, trail management, checkpoints, credentials, and supporting processes as applicable to the selected architecture and Golden Gate version.
  • Implement and validate initial data load and ongoing change replication, including coordination of initial‑load and change‑capture approaches where required.
  • Configure and validate replication mappings, table‑level inclusion/exclusion, supplemental logging, conflict/exception handling, and error‑handling procedures as required by the solution.
  • Monitor replication lag, throughput, process health, trail growth, checkpoints, and data consistency; investigate and resolve abends, latency, data divergence, and other replication failures.
  • Plan and execute Golden Gate deployment changes, upgrades or patching where in scope, failover/recovery procedures, restart/reposition activities, and controlled resynchronization when necessary.
  • Develop repeatable implementation scripts, validation checks, operational runbooks, and alerting for Golden Gate services.
  • Document replication topology, dependencies, recovery procedures, support boundaries, and service‑level expectations; demonstrate the solution and transfer knowledge to operations teams.
  • Oracle Data Guard, RAC and High Availability / Disaster Recovery
  • Implement, configure, and maintain Oracle Data Guard environments, including physical standby configurations and role transitions, in accordance with approved recovery objectives and design.
  • Configure and validate Data Guard transport/apply, monitoring, switchover, failover, reinstatement, and recovery procedures as applicable to the architecture and licensed features.
  • Administer Oracle RAC databases and related Clusterware and ASM components, including installation/configuration support, service management, troubleshooting, patching coordination, and availability validation.
  • Plan and participate in high‑availability and disaster‑recovery tests; capture results, resolve defects, and maintain documented recovery procedures.
  • Understand and clearly document the distinct purposes and operational implications of RAC, Data Guard, and Golden Gate; implement each according to the workload's approved requirements.
  • Oracle Database and Exadata Administration
  • Install, configure, patch, upgrade, and maintain Oracle databases hosted on Exa CC, following approved change management and vendor‑supported procedures.
  • Perform advanced performance analysis and tuning across SQL execution, execution plans, wait events, memory, I/O, storage, database services, and Exa CC‑specific capabilities where applicable.
  • Manage database capacity, tablespaces, space usage, growth forecasting, database configuration, users, roles, privileges, schemas, jobs, and database security controls.
  • Administer and validate backup and recovery, including restore/recovery testing and coordination with applicable OCI/Exa CC backup capabilities.
  • Investigate complex database incidents, identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and recommend preventative improvements.
  • OCI Tenancy and Exa CC Supporting Services
  • Administer relevant OCI tenancy resources, compartments, IAM policies and groups, network resources, monitoring, alerts, and service configurations required to support Exa CC.
  • Support VCN, subnet, routing, security list/Network Security Group, DNS, connectivity, and access troubleshooting in coordination with network and security teams.
  • Use applicable OCI monitoring, logging, Object Storage, and backup services where included in the approved solution.
  • Coordinate Exa CC and OCI lifecycle activities with Oracle and internal stakeholders, following assigned responsibilities and service boundaries.
  • Apply least‑privilege access, secure configuration, auditability, and organizational change and access‑management controls.
  • Monitoring and Operational Readiness
  • Establish and maintain actionable monitoring, alerting, health checks, capacity indicators, and operational dashboards for databases, RAC, Golden Gate, Data Guard, and relevant OCI components.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures, implementation guides, support runbooks, configuration records, dependency maps, and knowledge‑transfer materials.
  • Support production readiness reviews, service acceptance, incident/problem/change management, root‑cause analysis, and continuous service improvement.
  • Define and report relevant operational measures such as availability, backup success, recovery‑test outcomes, replication lag, incident trends, and capacity/performance indicators.
  • Security, Compliance and Collaboration
  • Apply database security and hardening practices, access controls, audit requirements, patching standards, and data‑handling requirements in accordance with policies and approved designs.
  • Work collaboratively with application owners, solution architects, infrastructure, networking, cybersecurity, service management, project delivery, Oracle support, and other delivery partners.
  • Provide clear technical status, risks, dependencies, implementation decisions, incident findings, and recommendations to technical and project stakeholders.
  • Support audits and compliance evidence gathering related to database access, configuration, changes, availability, backup/recovery, and operational controls.
