The Canadian Association of Gift Planners’ (CAGP) mission is to expand resources for causes and communities by educating, advocating and increasing equitable access to charitable gift planning. Established in 1993, CAGP is the only Canadian association that brings together charitable fundraisers and professional advisors. Grounded in continual learning, meaningful networking, and a commitment to sharing knowledge, CAGP’s 1,600 members support each other across diverse disciplines. The organization’s 15 local Chapters play a vital role in this work, building relationships and engaging members to advance philanthropy and strategic charitable gift planning nationwide.
CAGP welcomes applications for the appointment of its President and Chief Executive Officer, commencing Spring 2027, or soon thereafter. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) provides strategic and operational leadership for CAGP, setting direction and operationalising the 2025-2029 Strategic Plan. Working in close partnership with the Board, the CEO advances CAGP’s mission and serves as CAGP’s lead spokesperson and advocate with members, Chapters, partners, government, and the broader charitable sector.
The CEO is responsible for the long-term sustainability of the organization, including its financial health, the growth of its programs and membership, and the stewardship of its resources. Leading a remote-first team of 11, the CEO nurtures CAGP’s culture of trust, collaboration, and respectful, constructive dialogue, and supports the team as champions of the mission. The CEO also serves as Executive Director of the CAGP Foundation under a service agreement, leading the development of the Foundation’s annual workplan and budget, ensuring legal and regulatory compliance, and supporting its fundraising and donor stewardship.
Candidates should have an established record in senior leadership roles in the nonprofit sector, ideally from a national organization with affiliate members. As a seasoned senior leader, you are knowledgeable in governance best practices and ideally have experience working with a board of a charitable organization. You bring strong financial acumen, including experience developing and managing budgets, forecasting, with organizational risk, and have a solid working knowledge of the federal and provincial requirements that govern registered charities, including Canada Revenue Agency.
You enjoy motivating, developing, and retaining a remote team that is highly engaged, passionate and mission driven. Colleagues recognize your proven experience cultivating relationships with donors, your skill in building and sustaining strong relationships with relevant sector organizations and the federal government, as well as your service orientation to a membership base and Chapter affiliates. Your communications experience includes comfort with public speaking to enhance brand awareness, organizational visibility and best practices in the charitable/nonprofit sector, and with serving as a spokesperson for an organization.
Candidates must hold values that align with CAGP’s commitment to advancing and embedding diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) across all its work. As CAGP serves members across Canada, proficiency in both English and French is considered a strong asset.
