We are seeking a recognized expert and advisor in Solutions Engineering to advance a cloud-first strategy for Canadian operations, primarily focused on Microsoft Azure, with some AWS. The role will provide solution-level direction for the design, implementation, automation, documentation, and support of secure, scalable, resilient, and cost-effective cloud and technology solutions that align with enterprise architecture, cyber security, compliance, governance, and business requirements. This role reports to the Enterprise Architect and will work closely with business, engineering, data, security, storage and architecture teams; the role will provide expert direction in translating functional requirements into reusable technology solutions, solution patterns, high-level designs (HLDs), low-level designs (LLDs), design decisions, implementation roadmaps, and production-ready services.

The successful candidate will work with internal business units and IT to design and build scalable solutions, primarily across Microsoft Azure, with some AWS, using IaC and development pipelines. You will work closely with engineering teams, cyber security and department heads to deliver new business and engineering capabilities while advancing automation, resilience, security, cost and operational efficiency. Solutions will need to meet all compliance and governance requirements before being handed over to operational support teams to run and maintain.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide solution design and build for end-to-end cloud solutions, primarily across Microsoft Azure, with some AWS, aligned to enterprise architecture, security standards, operational requirements, and Canadian compliance obligations.
  • Advise on translating business and engineering needs into scalable, secure, reliable, and cost-effective technical architectures.
  • Develop and maintain solution architecture artefacts, including HLDs, LLDs, reusable solution patterns, technical options papers, decision records, and implementation roadmaps, in alignment with enterprise standards.
  • Provide expert direction for integration solutions, including APIs, data pipelines, event-driven architectures, identity integration, and secure connectivity patterns.
  • Recommend and apply automation standards for Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD pipelines, including Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, Azure ARM templates, and Azure Bicep.
  • Provide solution assurance and expert validation during implementation, including Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, identity, networking, monitoring, security, integration, and operational readiness.
  • Ensure solutions align with enterprise security, compliance, data governance, data residency, audit, and risk management requirements for Canadian operations.
  • Influence IT, security, architecture, and business teams to adopt reusable cloud patterns, reference architectures, and operationally supportable services.
  • Contribute to strategy, and roadmap discussions through expert technical advice, options analysis, trade-offs, risks, dependencies, and recommendations.
  • Guide the optimisation of cloud solutions for performance, reliability, resilience, security, and cost, applying a FinOps mindset.
  • Anticipate emerging cloud, AI, automation, integration, and security capabilities and guide their pragmatic application to business and engineering outcomes.

Qualifications

  • AI Tools / DevOps and Copilot: Advanced expertise in leveraging Microsoft Copilot Studio, Foundry, APIM and Microsoft Graph, and related services to provide solutions for business process automation, enable self-service solutions, improve collaboration, and integrate enterprise workflows.
  • Cloud Platforms (Azure & AWS): Expert-level experience architecting enterprise cloud solutions within established architecture and governance frameworks, including landing zones, networking, identity, compute, storage, monitoring, security, governance, and hybrid integration.
  • Broad, hands-on knowledge of core AWS and Azure platform services, including VPC/VNet, IAM/Entra ID, EC2/Azure Compute, S3/Azure Storage, CloudWatch/Azure Monitor, CloudTrail/Log Analytics, KMS/Key Vault, Route 53, Transit Gateway, Azure Policy, AWS Organizations, Control Tower, and Management Groups.
  • Infrastructure as Code: Deep expertise with Terraform and AWS CloudFormation, with strong working knowledge of Azure ARM templates and Bicep; ability to develop, review, and apply modular IaC patterns deployed through CI/CD pipelines.
  • Security, Compliance and Data Governance: Expert knowledge of cloud security best practices, least privilege access, encryption, logging, monitoring, policy guardrails, vulnerability management, data governance, data residency, audit evidence, and Canadian compliance considerations.
  • FinOps and Operational Excellence: Ability to guide cloud solution optimization for performance, reliability, resilience, security, and cost within established governance frameworks.
  • Hybrid, Network and Data Platforms: Broad understanding of hybrid cloud, storage, backup, disaster recovery, monitoring, observability, network connectivity, firewalls, WAF, SD-WAN, Windows Server, and Unix/Linux platforms, and how these disciplines inform cloud solution design.
  • Integration and Automation: Expert experience providing solution direction for APIs, integrations, event-driven services, and automated workflows across cloud and enterprise platforms.
  • Experience working with or familiarity with AI/ML models is preferred.
