Analyst II, BI in Calgary

You’ll play a pivotal role in driving operational excellence and fostering trust in data-driven decision making.

This role is based in our Home Office in Calgary, AB.

• What You’ll Do
• Analyze and prepare data for reporting and analysis purposes, understanding business requirements, querying databases, and transforming data into usable formats.
• Monitor semantic model refreshes to ensure they complete successfully and troubleshoot any issues that arise.

Diagnosing transformation and model issues, validating data accuracy against source, and escalating as needed.

Tracking of issues and resolutions: updates and management of a web-based case management system.

• Develop visualizations, dashboards, and reports using Power BI.

Working closely with stakeholders to understand their visualization needs and design compelling and insightful visual representations of data.

• Design and testing of business results reports, ensuring they meet stakeholders' requirements for accuracy, completeness, and usability.

Gathering report specifications, formatting data, and conducting thorough testing to validate report outputs.

• Identify opportunities for business improvement through data analysis.

Identifying cost-saving opportunities, revenue enhancement strategies, or process optimization initiatives based on insights derived from data analysis.

• Develop, maintain, and monitor data quality metrics to ensure data accuracy and consistency.

Defining data quality standards, conducting data quality assessments, and implementing data quality improvement initiatives.

• Provide support and guidance to citizen developers in utilizing BI tools effectively.

Offer assistance in understanding data structures, creating simple queries, and developing basic visualizations, empowering business users to independently analyze and derive insights from data.

• Document the process of report creation, including requirements, data sources, methodologies, and outcomes, and maintain testing, approval and release records for each change as required by the Data Operating Model.

Organize and maintain a centralized repository for storing completed reports, ensuring easy access and retrieval of information.

• Perform additional duties as needed to support the team and organizational goals

What You Bring

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Business, or related field or Comparable work experience
• 2-4 years of experience in SQL and Power BI
• Strong knowledge of SQL, Power BI (including DAX and data modelling), Microsoft Fabric and Git Hub.
• Familiar with data warehouse and lakehouse concepts, including medallion (Bronze/Silver/Gold) architecture and deployment pipelines
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and implement effective solutions
• Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment while working independently in a fast-paced, dynamic, and evolving workplace
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to provide clear documentation, technical writing, editing, and day-to-day support as needed
• Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring a high degree of accuracy and quality in all aspects of work
• Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization
• Highly organized and adaptable, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced environment
