Ethos Automation designs and builds custom automation and robotic systems for manufacturers across a range of industries, including assembly, material handling, machine tending, welding, inspection and testing, and packaging.

As our Applications Engineer, you will turn customer RFQs into practical, winnable automation concepts. You will review part data and requirements, assess feasibility, and develop process concepts, cell layouts and end-of-arm tooling concepts.

You will own the technical side of the quote: building cost estimates for labour, materials and major components, gathering supplier pricing, and identifying technical risks, assumptions and exclusions before a proposal goes out. You will coordinate input from our mechanical, controls, robotics and vision specialists, then hand off awarded projects to engineering with clear specs and stay involved through design, so what we quoted is what we build.

Responsibilities include light travel to customer sites for visits, kickoffs and acceptance testing.

  • 5+ years in custom automation, machine building or robotic systems integration
  • Degree or diploma in mechanical, mechatronics, electrical or automation engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Hands-on experience with industrial robots (ABB, FANUC or KUKA) and automation equipment
  • Working knowledge of 2D/3D CAD and automation components (grippers, fixtures, conveyors, vision, safety), and proven experience building cost estimates and proposals for custom equipment
  • Clear written and verbal communication with customers and internal teams; valid driver's license and ability to travel to customer sites (Canada, U.S., occasionally Mexico)
