On Frostbite, you'll collaborate with accomplished teams and contribute to the foundation that enables the creation of immersive, high-quality games for players worldwide.
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Frostbite Animation team, you will work on core runtime animation systems, as well as the authoring tools and asset pipelines used by content creators across global EA studios. You will tackle important engineering priorities — ranging from maintaining critical core frameworks to advancing long‑term technical initiatives, including memory and performance optimization and dynamic/live content workflows. This role is Hybrid remote/in-office and will report to the Character Technologies Development Director.
Responsibilities:
- Build performant systems across our runtime animation engine (C++) and content creator authoring tools and editor extensions (C#).
- Take ownership of core animation features and subsystems from technical design through production, testing, multi-platform deployment, and release stability.
- Improve runtime performance and memory optimizations, including reducing memory footprints and enabling headless scripting operations.
- Support production stability, release pipelines, build farm issues, and partner escalations across active EA SPORTS and AAA game teams.
- Partner with animators, technical artists, and game development teams to translate creative concepts into performant engine features.
- Manage technical debt, reduce codebase divergence across title branches, and participate in architecture reviews and code reviews to maintain long-term code health.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers on the team to support their technical growth and foster engineering best practices.
Qualifications:
- 8+ years of professional software development experience.
- Strong C++ and C# programming skills with experience in object-oriented design, multi-threading, and memory management.
- Experience in 3D math, including transforms, rotations, quaternions, and skeletal kinematics.
- Experience working with game engine architecture, runtime animation evaluation graphs, or asset authoring pipelines.
- Experience with performance profiling and memory analysis tools to debug CPU/memory bottlenecks.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
Bonus Experience:
- Familiarity with Frostbite animation tools/frameworks or similar proprietary engine architectures.
- Experience with headless scripting, asset serialization pipelines, state machines, or real-time simulation.
- Experience supporting live content systems, dynamic cinematic generation, or user-generated content (UGC) workflows.
- Hands-on experience targeting modern console platforms (PlayStation, Xbox) and build automation/CI systems.
