Lead communications strategy and media relations for the Region of Durham from Regional Headquarters in Whitby, Ontario. Support departments through clear, coordinated communication. Reporting to the Communications Manager, this Communications Officer provides strategic and tactical support across Durham Region. The position oversees Communication Specialists, develops portfolio plans, and supports responses involving Council, corporate leadership, and the public. It also requires strong writing, editing, and social media expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee, distribute, and review Communication Specialists' daily work
- Coach, advise, and mentor communications staff toward strong outcomes
- Develop and implement departmental communications strategies
- Create portfolio strategies, measurements, and tactical plans
- Write communications materials using brand standards and CP Style Guide
Requirements:
- Degree or diploma in journalism, public relations, or communications
- Several years in media relations, public relations, or communications
- Experience supervising, coaching, and mentoring staff
- Strong social media and communications expertise
- Extensive knowledge of the Canadian Press Style Guide
