As an RVT you will work together with the on-site staff as well as with outside specialists to provide medical care to rescue animals that have been neglected and/or abused (primarily dogs and cats). The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, able to recognize animal behaviours, and possess a deep sense of compassion, sensitivity, and patience.
About Dog Tales Rescue & Sanctuary: Dog Tales is a world-renowned dog rescue and horse sanctuary set on an incredible 50 acres of green fields, rolling hills, and wooded areas in King City, Ontario. Our picturesque location – complete with walking trails, therapy pool, and a grooming spa – is the perfect setting for abused and neglected animals to heal and be rehabilitated while they wait for forever homes. Along with medical care, our team provides all of the love, attention, and training that our rescue animals need to recover from their difficult pasts, so that they can move on to permanent, loving homes, which most do. For the rest, Dog Tales is home for as long as they need it to be. Our multidisciplinary team operates according to shelter medicine principles, focusing on population health, preventive care, and humane, low-stress handling, ensuring every animal receives the medical attention and emotional support they need to thrive.
The Role: Our sanctuary provides a safe and structured environment where animals receive comprehensive medical care, enrichment, and behavioural rehabilitation. Working closely with veterinarians, animal care staff, and behaviour teams, you will help ensure that all animals receive compassionate, consistent, and high-quality care.
- Evaluate new animal intake conditions and review medical history including diagnostics.
- Communicate with adoptive families over the phone, email, and in person regarding past medical history and medical plan moving forward (if required).
- Assist with ongoing monitoring, treatment and preventative care.
- Contribute to maintaining accurate medical records.
- Work closely with veterinarians, animal care staff and behaviour teams to ensure all animals receive consistent and high quality care.
- Other duties as required.
What You Bring:
- Minimum 3 years of experience as an RVT, preferably with shelter, referral, or emergency medicine experience.
- Experience with shelter, referral or emergency medicine preferred.
- Familiarity with Avimark, EZVet, and IDEXX is an asset.
- Attention to detail.
- Adaptability, strong teamwork, and a commitment to both individual animal care and overall population health in a dynamic shelter setting.
- Understanding of challenges and emotional complexities that come with caring for animals with difficult histories.
- Valid Driver’s License (G) & access to a vehicle.
What We Offer: We believe in supporting our team with great perks that make work enjoyable and life easier:
- Competitive Salary and Benefits: We offer a competitive salary along with a solid benefits package, including health, vision, and dental coverage to keep you covered.
- Extended Healthcare: In addition to regular health benefits, we provide extra support for your well-being, including mental health resources.
- Free Staff Meals: Enjoy free daily meals while at work, making your day a little more convenient and enjoyable.
- Paid Vacation and Sick Days: Take time to relax or recover with paid vacation and sick days, because work-life balance is important.
- Employee Appreciation Events: We host regular events to celebrate our team and build a positive, fun work environment.
- GRSP: Contribute to a Group Registered Savings Plan to secure your future.
Compensation: $55,000 - $65,000 per year.
Schedule: Our animals require care year-round, including weekends and evenings. Our team members work varied shifts 5 days per week from Monday-Sunday, including holidays.
