The problem with some Senior Accountant roles is that you can spend years preparing financial statements without ever getting much closer to the people making the decisions behind them. This opportunity is rather different. You'll join a well-established independent CPA firm in Ottawa's Westboro area, working with privately held businesses, incorporated professionals, entrepreneurs and individuals. The firm has been serving Ottawa clients for over 20 years and has built its reputation on providing personal, practical advice rather than simply preparing financial statements and tax returns.
Youβll work closely with experienced Partners, take ownership of client engagements and gain exposure to corporate tax planning, estate and succession planning, and broader business advisory work.
Why consider it:
- Hybrid working in Ottawa
- Established independent CPA firm with a strong local reputation
- Varied privately held business and individual clients
- Exposure to corporate tax planning, estate planning and advisory
- Direct client responsibility and close involvement with Partners
- Opportunity for long-term career development and progression
What you'll be doing:
- Prepare compilation engagements, financial statements and year-end working papers
- Prepare T2 corporate, T1 personal and T3 trust tax returns
- Assist with corporate tax planning, reorganizations and estate-related matters
- Manage client files, resolve accounting issues and respond to CRA correspondence
- Work directly with clients and Partners, while supporting and reviewing junior staff where appropriate
What they're looking for:
- 3+ years of Canadian public accounting experience within a CPA firm is essential
- Strong compilation, financial statement preparation and Canadian tax experience
- CPA designation or actively working towards completion
- Good understanding of ASPE and Canadian income tax requirements
- Comfortable managing client files and communicating directly with clients
- Experience with CaseWare and Canadian tax software would be beneficial
We support the CPA firms we partner with in building diverse, inclusive and equitable workplaces, and even if this role isn't the right fit, there may be another one that is.
