This position is instrumental in ensuring the overall and long-term safety of the mine. We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive GroundProbe Radar Technician/Geotechnical Engineer to manage, maintain, and support our network of GroundProbe Slope Stability Radars (SSR). In this safety-critical role, your primary responsibility will be the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and data analysis of the GroundProbe Slope Stability monitoring radar systems to ensure real-time hazard detection. Your expertise will directly impact open-pit mining safety, providing early warning metrics that protect personnel and equipment. Secondary responsibilities include fundamental geotechnical engineering support for the mining team.

The role is well suited to one who has a keen eye for continuous improvement opportunities, is analytical, can quickly build relationships with the mine operations team, and who is committed to safe work practices while striving for zero harm. THIS IS A FIXED-TERM CONTRACT TO APRIL 2027.

Key responsibilities:

  • Monitor real-time radar data, deformation trends, and atmospheric corrections using GroundProbe’s SSR-Monitor IQ software.
  • Establish, optimize, and manage critical displacement radar alarm thresholds to safeguard personnel and equipment.
  • Perform routine diagnostic checks, hardware troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance on radar units in the field.
  • Generate daily and weekly slope performance reports, communicating critical displacement trends immediately to operations management.
  • Install and manage Piezometers and Geothermal Temperature Cables.

  • Support rockfall assessments and slope stability modeling.
  • Regularly inspect open pit operations to ensure design parameters and provide recommendations to the operations team to maintain high wall safety.
  • Provide geotechnical input on drill and blast plans and short-to-mid-term mine planning.

Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, the role resides within the Technical Services department. This is a site-based position working two weeks in/two weeks out rotation that balances time at site, with time off site.
