The Principal Front-end Engineer is a hands-on technical leader who will define and drive the future of user interface development at Questrade. You will be responsible for leading the architectural design and development of our next-generation front-end applications, with a primary focus on React Native for mobile and a strong secondary expertise in Angular for web platforms. As a foremost expert in front-end technologies, you will mentor a talented team, champion innovation, and ensure our applications deliver a seamless, high-performance, and world-class user experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Vision & Strategy: Define and drive the long-term technical vision and strategy for our front-end applications (both mobile and web), aligning with business goals and industry trends.
- Architecture & Design: Lead the architectural design and development of complex, high-performance front-end applications using React Native and Angular.
- Leadership & Mentorship: Act as a technical mentor and force-multiplier for the front-end engineering team.
- Performance & Streaming Optimization: Lead efforts to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across our front-end platforms.
- Best Practices & Quality: Establish and govern front-end engineering best practices.
- Innovation & Research: Spearhead research, prototyping, and the adoption of new front-end technologies and frameworks.
- AI Adoption & Innovation: Champion the exploration and integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and technologies.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with product managers, UX designers, architects, and other engineering leaders.
- Problem Solving: Tackle the most complex technical challenges in the front-end domain.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a significant focus on front-end development.
- Secondary Skill (Angular): Strong, hands-on experience with modern web development using Angular.
- Nice to Have (NodeJS): Experience with or an understanding of back-end development using NodeJS is considered a strong asset.
- Architectural Leadership: Demonstrated experience designing, building, and scaling complex, high-traffic front-end applications.
- Performance & Streaming Expertise: Proven experience in optimizing front-end application performance.
- Technical Leadership: Proven experience in a technical leadership or mentorship capacity.
- Ecosystem Knowledge: In-depth experience with state management libraries, RESTful APIs, and front-end build tools.
- Analytical Skills: Possesses exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Communication & Influence: Excellent communication skills.
- Ownership & Mindset: Demonstrates a strong sense of ownership and accountability for outcomes.

Compensation Information:
Base salary range: $130,000 - $170,000. The final compensation package will be commensurate with the successful candidate's experience, skills, and geographic location (Canada).
