Schedule:40 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Projects on land and on the water. A place to put your experience to work.

Based in New Richmond, Les Entreprises PEC employs approximately 100 people and carries out civil construction, marine construction and infrastructure maintenance projects across Eastern Canada.

Building a bridge on Anticosti Island, reconstructing a wharf in Cap-des-Rosiers or dredging in New Brunswick: PEC's projects reflect expertise that extends from land to water. As an estimator, this variety will give you opportunities to apply your experience and take on new challenges from one project to the next.

At PEC, you will find an approachable management team, a general manager who stays connected with employees, and experienced crews. You will work directly with decision-makers and site supervisors in an environment where your expertise and ideas can make a difference.

To support its projects and continued growth, PEC is creating an Estimator — Estimating Lead position. This is an opportunity to put your experience to work preparing bids while helping shape the company's estimating tools and practices.

Requirements

YOUR ROLE

Reporting to the Director of Projects and Estimating, you will coordinate the preparation of estimates and bids for projects generally valued between $1 million and $10 million, with some exceeding that range.

You will build on established practices and the team’s experience, with room to recommend improvements and put them into practice with your manager’s support. Bid selection and final bid reviews will be team decisions.

HOW YOU'll MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

Identify opportunities and plan bid preparation.

Monitor tender opportunities, help select projects to bid on, and organize the work to meet submission deadlines.

Review project requirements and prepare estimates.

Analyze drawings, specifications and addenda, validate quantities with the quantity takeoff specialist, and estimate labour, material, equipment, transportation and subcontracting costs. Obtain and compare supplier and subcontractor quotes. Work with the relevant teams to confirm anticipated production rates and the availability of labour and equipment against the construction schedule.

Contribute to bid reviews and project handovers.

Review costs, construction methods, risks and compliance with tender requirements as a team before submission. Then communicate budgets, assumptions and key considerations to the project delivery team.

Improve estimating practices.

Agree on priority improvements with your manager and implement them in collaboration with the team. Improve estimating tools and maintain cost data, using actual project results to refine future estimates.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE

You have relevant experience estimating civil construction projects and can prepare bids independently while working closely with others. You are proficient in reading drawings and specifications, validating quantities and estimating costs. You understand construction methods and how they affect production rates, costs and schedules.

Your background may be in civil engineering technology, engineering or a comparable combination of hands‑on experience and estimating expertise. We would like to hear from you, even if you have taken a different career path.

Comfortable with Excel and estimating software, you know how to organize data, check calculations and explain your estimates. You recognize information gaps and know when to consult your manager, a project manager or a site supervisor.

You enjoy improving work practices and working with others to put ideas into action. Your sound judgment, attention to detail and organizational skills allow you to manage several bids while meeting deadlines.

You can work in English, both verbally and in writing.
