About the Opportunity
Our client is a private mid-market manufacturer of consumer products. The Manager, FP&A reports to the head of finance and leads a team of two Senior Financial Analysts, one covering Sales and one covering Operations. You’ll own budgeting, forecasting and performance reporting. You’ll also be the person leadership relies on to explain what is really driving margin across product mix, purchase price and plant costing. The finance function is modernizing. The business is moving to a continuous rolling forecast linked to supply chain’s demand plan. Reporting and analytics are being rebuilt, including an internal AI tool already in use. This role suits a sharp, data-driven FP&A leader who wants real influence, a capable team to coach, and visible work that shapes pricing, capex and product decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Planning & Forecasting
- Lead the annual budget: coordinate stakeholder submissions, roll up the numbers, build the drivers for sales growth and SG&A, and help defend the plan with senior leadership.
- Build and run a continuous rolling forecast (volume, labour, materials) that uses the supply chain demand forecast and tracks forecast against budget and actuals.
- Develop cash flow, balance sheet and expense forecasts, plus scenario models for pricing, promotions and new products.
- Margin & Operational Analytics
- Analyze plant performance, production metrics, absorption and BOM costing to assess manufacturing effectiveness.
- Normalize monthly margins for one-time items and dig into sales mix, purchase price and costing to explain margin movement.
- Evaluate capex and business cases, SKU rationalization, inventory and trade spend, and present findings to the COO, CEO and leadership team.
- Own monthly business performance reporting, variance commentary, KPI reporting, flash reports and board deck preparation.
- Lead, coach and review the work of two Senior Financial Analysts, setting deadlines and holding the team accountable.
- Partner across Sales, Operations and Supply Chain, building influence in an organization that is breaking down silos.
- Improve and automate reporting using advanced Excel and Power BI, cutting manual work and speeding up monthly insight.
What You Bring
- 8+ years of progressive FP&A experience in a manufacturing environment, including time as a Senior Financial Analyst.
- Hands-on knowledge of manufacturing finance: production and operations metrics, absorption costing, BOM costing and plant performance analysis.
- People leadership experience (team lead, supervisor or manager), with a track record of coaching analysts and driving accountability.
- Advanced Excel modeling skills: driver-based forecasting, scenario analysis, and turning large, messy data sets into clear insight.
- Confidence presenting analysis to senior leaders and influencing cross-functional stakeholders.
- Proven ability to work independently: you know where to look, who to ask and how to follow through without close direction.
Nice to Have
- Product costing or cost review experience.
- Background in high-volume SKU businesses, CPG or food manufacturing, including trade spend analytics and retailer RFPs.
- NetSuite and Power BI experience.
- Exposure to multi-entity, multi-currency consolidation.
