Apply Building By-law expertise as a Building Code Specialist with the City of Vancouver, supporting permitting decisions and complex project reviews. This regular full-time position provides independent technical interpretations on behalf of the Chief Building Official. You will oversee Certified Professional projects, coordinate Project Coordinators, and advise applicants, design professionals, and City staff. The work supports Building Permit Applications, plans examination, and permit issuance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Authorize Building Permit issuance for Building By-law compliance
- Interpret Building By-law intent for complex projects
- Manage Certified Professional projects and complete code reviews
- Resolve technical questions from professionals and the public
- Supervise, mentor, and authorize Project Coordinator permits
Requirements:
- Architecture or Civil or Mechanical Engineering degree
- Professional Engineer or Architect registration eligibility in British Columbia
- Considerable plans examination and Building By-law interpretation experience
- Knowledge of BC Building Code and Fire Protection Codes
- Leadership, mentoring, and supervisory experience
- Bring technical code interpretation, permitting expertise, and communication skills to the City of Vancouver’s Development, Building and Licensing team.
