Shape optical and IP network architecture at Ciena while directing advanced planning research. Apply analytical methods to complex customer networks and decisions. This technical director leads the Advanced Network Planning group within the Navigator Network Control Suite Product Line Management organization. You will guide qualified analysts supporting Ciena’s largest customers on tactical and strategic planning initiatives. Your work connects architecture analysis, capacity engineering, resiliency, and optimization trade-offs with product direction. You will establish evaluation criteria, validate methods through customer projects, and collaborate with hardware teams on alternative architectures. AI-enabled methods support planning, modeling, decision support, software development, algorithm prototyping, and engineering productivity, with attention to data quality, explainability, validation, and operational risk. Key Responsibilities:
Analyze optical, IP, and data centre architectures Model alternatives and influence hardware product roadmaps Establish criteria for evaluating network planning methods Validate research through customer network planning projects Translate validated concepts into scalable planning capabilities Requirements:
15+ years telecommunications experience across technical and leadership roles 10+ years optical and IP transport expertise Substantial network planning and architecture analysis experience Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to evaluate AI-enabled planning methods responsibly Use optical transport, IP architecture, capacity engineering, and analytical judgment to advance Ciena’s network planning technology.
