The Vice President, Capital Partnerships & Syndication is a hybrid role. Its primary function is to find, onboard, and grow new sources of capital for CSMC: institutional investors (credit unions, banks, pension funds, insurance companies, and other institutional lenders) and private investors (family offices, private lenders, and high-net-worth individuals). The role is based in Vancouver with a focus on Western Canada, and is encouraged to develop capital relationships across Canada.
The role brings its own investor network to CSMC, takes over management of CSMC’s existing Western Canada investor relationships, and builds new relationships. It connects that network to CSMC deal flow through the syndication process: it presents term sheets and loan summaries to investors, secures investor approvals, and works alongside the East Coast and West Coast Syndicators to place loans. The role gives West Coast originators structuring and pricing feedback, and it holds a voting seat on the Internal Credit Committee (ICC).
Key Responsibilities 1. Capital Raising and Investor Development (primary function)
Build and run an annual investor development plan, including a target list by investor type (credit unions, banks, pension funds, insurance companies, family offices, private lenders, and high-net-worth individuals) and by region
Bring the incumbent’s existing investor network to CSMC and onboard those investors
Take over and grow CSMC’s existing Western Canada investor book, including relationships transitioned from the former SVP & Managing Director, Western Canada
Find and develop new institutional and private investors across Canada, with a focus on Western Canada
Lead investor onboarding from first meeting to first funded loan: introduction meetings, presentations on CSMC and the syndication process, investor due diligence requests, know-your-client and anti-money laundering onboarding, and execution of CSMC’s standard servicing agreement
With the SVP, Credit, negotiate investor-level agreements, including origination and servicing agreements and dedicated lending programs; elevate any change to CSMC’s standard servicing terms before agreeing to it
Record each investor’s lending criteria: property types, regions, loan size, maximum loan-to-value, loan position (first or second mortgage), term, target return, concentration limits, and any regulatory limits
Match live CSMC deals to newly onboarded investors so that each new relationship leads to a first funded loan
Track changes in each investor’s appetite, capacity, and regulatory limits (for example, credit union regulator approvals or program caps), and report them to the syndication and origination teams
Keep investor relationships in good standing: hold regular check-ins, resolve investor concerns on individual deals, and coordinate with Servicing and Special Loans so investors receive accurate updates on the loans they hold
Represent CSMC at industry events and conferences, and host investor meetings and events
Support capital raising for CSMC funds and investment mandates, as directed by the CEO and the SVP, Credit
Report the investor pipeline to the SVP, Credit monthly: investors targeted, in onboarding, onboarded, and funded
2. Syndication
Review term sheets and loan summaries and assess whether each deal fits specific investors’ lending criteria
Send term sheets and loan summaries to investors; secure preliminary investor support before letter of intent; obtain formal investor approvals after loan summary
Coordinate with the East Coast and West Coast Syndicators on investor coverage so each investor has one clear CSMC contact for each deal
Submit West Coast deals to internal fund investment committees and manage the related governance documentation (minutes, approvals)
Negotiate interlender agreements and CSSL forms
Record all investor activity, feedback, and approvals in CSMC dashboards
3. Credit and Internal Credit Committee
Hold a voting seat on the ICC: review ICC materials before each meeting, attend ICC meetings, and vote on submissions
Provide the ICC with an investor view on each deal: which investors are likely to participate, at what pricing, and on what conditions
Declare any conflict of interest on an ICC submission and abstain from the vote where required under ICC rules
Review West Coast deals at intake and provide an early go / no-go recommendation before term sheet issuance
Provide structuring and pricing input to Origination on term sheets, including loan-to-value, debt service coverage ratio, interest rate spread over the benchmark rate, fees, and amortization period
Ensure West Coast credit files meet CSMC credit policy and documentation standards
4. Compliance and Governance
Ensure West Coast files comply with CSMC anti-money laundering (AML) and know-your-client (KYC) procedures
Hold and maintain a mortgage agent or broker licence in British Columbia (and Alberta if required)
Follow ICC governance, fund governance, and delegated authority limits without exception
