Bunch Projects is a growing and proudly Alberta-owned company that’s been building energy facilities and pipelines across Western Canada since 1981. We’re known for doing things the right way - with a big focus on safety, quality, and keeping projects running smoothly from start to finish. We bring engineering, fabrication, and construction together under one team, which helps our clients save time and keep costs predictable. Our projects include gas plants, well pad modules, pipelines, and carbon capture.

We are seeking a senior Project Engineer to join our design and engineering team. The successful candidate will provide technical and project support across cross-functional teams, interface with clients, discipline leads, and contractors, and help drive successful delivery in a dynamic oil and gas environment. This role supports pre-FEED, FEED, detailed engineering, and construction phases of our clients' oil and gas and energy projects, working closely with the Project Manager and project controls team.

Responsibilities

  • Support end-to-end project execution for EPC scopes, helping ensure delivery on time, on budget, and to the required quality and safety standards.
  • Assist in the development, maintenance, and control of project execution plans, schedules, budgets, forecasts, and risk registers.
  • Support project management with scope definition, engineering work package (EWP) development, man-hour estimation, and schedule tracking.
  • Promote HSE performance and ensure compliance with company policies, client requirements, and applicable regulations.
  • Support change management processes and assist with commercial documentation as required.
  • Serve as a key technical interface with clients and stakeholders; support progress reporting and issue resolution.
  • Coordinate with process engineers, designers, construction/fabrication teams, third parties, and other engineering disciplines to ensure cohesive project delivery.
  • Prepare and contribute to project status reports, technical summaries, and project documentation.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines on control system design documentation.
  • Coordinate/participate in design reviews, model reviews, and client meetings as required.
  • Actively participate in process hazard analysis (PHA) activities as required.
  • Ensure all engineering designs conform to applicable federal and provincial regulations and associated design codes/standards.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, studies, technical reports, and design documentation.
  • Provide technical support during the procurement phase, including technical proposal writing, proposal evaluations and vendor drawing reviews.
  • Support fabrication, construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning and startup activities on job sites across Western Canada as required.
  • Support project close-out activities, including lessons learned, final documentation, and handover.
  • Mentor junior engineers and project support staff.
  • Conduct field investigations and site visits as required.

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, chemical, civil, or related engineering.
  • Registered as a P.Eng. with APEGA.
  • 10 to 15+ years of progressive process engineering experience within an EPC/EPCM or major production operation environment.
  • Direct project experience with Western Canadian energy infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with project controls concepts.
  • Strong technical coordination, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with proven track record of taking projects from conceptual design through detailed engineering and site commissioning.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

Preferred

  • Rotating equipment design/sizing experience is considered an asset.
  • Piping design and modular systems experience.
  • Greenfield and brownfield project experience.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with EGBC and APEGS is considered a strong asset.
  • Professional registration in the United States would be an asset.

Core Competencies

  • Uncompromising attention to quality, process safety, and engineering integrity.
  • Mentorship: Passionate about guiding, coaching, and developing junior and intermediate engineers.
  • Client & Stakeholder Communication: Able to clearly present technical concepts, scenarios, options, and risks to client teams and project leadership.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable working across both traditional hydrocarbon projects and other energy/industrial projects.
  • Technical Skills: Operational understanding of field practices and environmental conditions specific to Western Canadian energy sites.
