Bunch Projects is a proudly Alberta-owned energy services company with roots dating back to 1981. For more than four decades, we have been delivering energy infrastructure across Western Canada with a strong focus on safety, quality, execution, and long-term client relationships. Our vertically integrated approach brings engineering, fabrication, construction, electrical and instrumentation, insulation, and commissioning together under one team. This allows us to take projects from early design through fabrication and field execution while maintaining greater control over schedule, cost, quality, and constructability.

We are seeking a senior Process Engineer to join our design and engineering team. The successful candidate will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to provide process engineering deliverables, to support our projects at the pre-FEED, FEED, Detailed Engineering and Construction phases of our clients’ oil and gas and energy projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead process engineer on projects of various size and complexity in Western Canada, taking professional responsibility for process design and deliverables.
  • Develop, review, and authenticate critical process design deliverables, including Heat and Material Balances (HMBs), Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and other process deliverables as required.
  • Perform complex process simulations using industry-standard tools such as HYSYS, VMGSim/Symmetry to design and optimize system performance and efficiency.
  • Conduct hydraulics calculations, line sizing, blowdown/depressurization studies, flare network analyses, and relief valve sizing per API 520/521 standards.
  • Actively participate in process hazard analysis (PHA) activities (HAZOP, and What-If reviews), and layer of protection analysis (LOPA).
  • Ensure all engineering designs conform to applicable provincial regulations (AER, BCER, etc.) and associated design codes/standards.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, studies, technical reports, and design documentation.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines on control system design documentation (control philosophy/narrative, shutdown key and design basis memorandum (DBM’s).
  • Coordinate with project engineers, designers, construction/fabrication teams, third parties, and other engineering disciplines to ensure cohesive project delivery.
  • Participate in design reviews, model reviews, and client meetings as required.
  • Provide process technical support during the procurement phase, including technical proposal wiring, proposal evaluations and vendor drawing reviews.
  • Support fabrication, construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning and startup activities on job sites across Western Canada as required.
  • Support project management with scope definition, engineering work package (EWP) development, man-hour estimation, and schedule tracking.
  • Conduct field investigations and site visits as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering.
  • Registered as a P.Eng. with APEGA.
  • 10 to 15+ years of progressive process engineering experience within an EPC/EPCM or major production operation environment.
  • Direct design experience with Western Canadian energy infrastructure projects encompassing: Oil treatment, battery facilities, water treatment, and pipeline networks.
  • In-situ heavy oil / SAGD processing or refinery/upgrading integration.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with proven track record of taking projects from conceptual design through detailed engineering and site commissioning.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

Preferred:

  • Registration or eligibility for registration with EGBC (Engineers and Geoscientists BC) and APEGS is considered a strong asset.
  • Professional registration in the United States would be an asset.

Core Competencies:

  • Uncompromising attention to quality, process safety, and engineering integrity.
  • Mentorship: Passionate about guiding, coaching, and developing junior and intermediate engineers.
  • Client & Stakeholder Communication: Able to clearly present technical concepts, scenarios, options, and risks to client teams and project leadership.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable working across both traditional hydrocarbon projects and other energy/industrial projects.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced capability with process simulation tools (HYSIS, Symmetry/VMGSim). Experience with flare design and hydraulics tools. Deep operational understanding of field practices and environmental conditions specific to Western Canadian energy sites.
