Precision Matters. Your Work Keeps Heavy Industry Moving. There is a difference between operating a machine and truly understanding the work. At Bridge Machine, we are looking for an experienced Honing Machinist who understands precision, takes pride in getting the details right, and knows that when you're working on critical hydraulic components, tolerances and surface finish matter.

For decades, Bridge Machine has supported demanding industrial applications with machining, hydraulic cylinder repair, manufacturing, and rebuild capabilities. Our work supports equipment operating in industries where reliability isn't optional. If you enjoy hands-on machining, understand the skill behind precision honing, and want to work with a team that values experience and craftsmanship, we'd like to meet you.

What You'll Do

  • Set up and operate industrial honing equipment for hydraulic cylinder barrels, tubes, and related components.
  • Hone internal diameters to specified dimensions, tolerances, and surface finish requirements.
  • Read and interpret drawings, specifications, work orders, and technical information.
  • Select appropriate honing tools, stones, speeds, feeds, and operating parameters.
  • Measure bores accurately using precision measuring equipment.
  • Monitor dimensions and surface condition throughout the honing process and make adjustments as required.
  • Identify conditions such as taper, out-of-round, scoring, wear, and other bore defects.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure it meets Bridge Machine's quality requirements.
  • Work closely with machinists, welders, and other members of the production team on repair and manufacturing requirements.
  • Safely rig, position, and move large components using overhead cranes and material-handling equipment.
  • Complete required production and inspection documentation.
  • Perform routine equipment checks and basic preventative maintenance.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Follow all company quality, safety, and operating procedures.

What You Bring

  • 3–5+ years of machining and/or honing experience.
  • Previous experience operating industrial honing equipment.
  • Experience with hydraulic cylinders, large-bore or long-bore honing is a strong asset.
  • Strong understanding of machining tolerances, bore geometry, and surface finish.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and technical specifications.
  • Confidence using precision measuring and inspection equipment.
  • Experience identifying and correcting taper, out-of-round conditions, and surface imperfections.
  • Mechanical aptitude and strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience working with overhead cranes and safely handling large components.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative shop environment.
  • A strong commitment to quality and safe work practices.

A Red Seal Machinist certification is an asset, but not required. We value demonstrated honing and machining capability and will consider equivalent hands-on experience.

The Person Who Will Do Well Here

You take pride in your work. You don't need someone standing over you to make sure a job is done properly. You measure twice, pay attention to the details, and understand that being 'close enough' isn't good enough when you're working to a tolerance. You're also comfortable working as part of a shop team. When something doesn't look right, you speak up. When there's a problem, you help solve it. Most importantly, you care about sending quality work out the door.

Why Bridge Machine?

At Bridge Machine, you'll work in a hands-on industrial environment where your skills and experience matter. You'll have the opportunity to:

  • Work on challenging hydraulic and heavy industrial components.
  • Apply specialized machining and honing skills every day.
  • Work alongside experienced tradespeople.
  • See the equipment and components you're repairing from start to finish.
  • Build your expertise within a specialized industrial operation.
  • Be part of a company backed by the broader Boundary group of companies.

Join Bridge Machine If you're an experienced machinist who knows honing β€” or you've developed strong honing expertise through years of hands-on machining β€” we want to hear from you. Bring your experience, your attention to detail, and your pride in quality workmanship.
