The Mechanical Designer ensures that all deliverables are accurate, constructible, and aligned with project requirements, industry standards, and best practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate engineering concepts, calculations, and design criteria into high-quality, constructible drawings.
  • Ensure all design deliverables comply with project specifications, applicable codes, standards, and internal procedures.
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical, structural, and electrical/instrumentation engineers, as well as project teams, to resolve technical and interface challenges.
  • Support internal design reviews, engineering checks, and constructability assessments.
  • Incorporate supplier and vendor data into designs, ensuring alignment with project and equipment requirements.
  • Support procurement, fabrication, pre-assembly, erection, and commissioning activities as needed.
  • Review shop drawings and fabrication details for accuracy and compliance with project specifications.
  • Conduct site and shop visits to support design validation, troubleshooting, and issue resolution.
  • Promote safety, quality, and maintainability in all design solutions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience as a Mechanical Designer within industrial sectors such as mining, aggregates, cement, or bulk material handling.
  • Strong experience with material handling systems, with direct conveyor layout and design expertise strongly preferred.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical components, tolerances, fabrication methods, and erection practices.
  • Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar platforms).
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary and geographically distributed project teams.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent technical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
