The Opportunity: If you are an exceptional researcher and writer who enjoys learning about new industries, solving problems and turning complex information into a compelling business case, this role may be an excellent fit. The Funding Analyst is a critical member of our client delivery team and is responsible for researching and developing the written content required for government funding applications. Approximately 70% of the role is focused on research and professional business writing. You will regularly move between industries, clients, and subject areas.

What You'll Do:

  • Research clients, industries, technologies, equipment, production processes, markets and other technical or business topics required to develop strong funding applications.
  • Become a project-level subject matter expert, developing enough knowledge of unfamiliar industries and technologies to communicate complex concepts clearly and credibly.
  • Draft comprehensive government funding applications, business cases, proposals and supporting documentation on behalf of clients.
  • Translate technical, financial, and operational information into clear, persuasive narratives aligned with government funding priorities.
  • Review program guidelines, application forms, and supporting documentation to develop a thorough understanding of eligibility requirements, evaluation criteria, program objectives and submission requirements.
  • Identify key program language and ensure applications clearly demonstrate alignment between the client's proposed project and the funder's objectives.
  • Develop application templates, checklists, and other working documents to ensure all required information and supporting documentation are addressed.
  • Adhere to our in-house Style Guide and standards for written content.
  • Conduct detailed self-reviews of your work for accuracy, completeness, consistency, grammar, and overall quality before applications move through the broader review process.
  • Incorporate feedback from Funding Specialists, internal reviewers, and clients while maintaining consistency across the complete application package.

Project Strategy & Collaboration:

  • Partner closely with Funding Specialists to understand each client's business, proposed project, and overall funding strategy.
  • Participate in relevant client meetings to gain first-hand knowledge of projects, ask questions and capture the information required for application development.
  • Build on the Funding Specialist's initial project strategy to develop a comprehensive and compelling application narrative.
  • Identify information gaps throughout the writing process and develop thoughtful, customized questions that enable Funding Specialists to efficiently gather the required information from clients.
  • Maintain proactive communication with Funding Specialists regarding application progress, outstanding information, upcoming deadlines, and potential risks.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the BDO GrantMatch team to share program knowledge, research, and best practices.

Government Funding Research:

  • Research new and existing government funding programs across Canada and the United States.
  • Interpret complex program guidelines and translate them into practical eligibility requirements, funding considerations, and application strategies.
  • Identify programs that may align with existing client projects and communicate potential opportunities to the broader team.
  • Stay informed about government priorities, economic developments, emerging industries and business trends that may influence funding opportunities.
  • Contribute research and program intelligence to BDO GrantMatch's internal funding knowledge base and proprietary technology platform.

Project Management & Quality:

  • Manage multiple applications and research assignments simultaneously, often with competing priorities and firm external deadlines.
  • Develop and maintain realistic workback schedules in collaboration with Funding Specialists.
  • Take ownership of assigned deliverables and ensure work is completed accurately and on time, with sufficient time for internal and client review.
  • Maintain organized electronic project files and documentation using Microsoft 365 and SharePoint.
  • Track application progress and communicate status, information requirements, and potential challenges proactively.
  • Support application submission and post-approval/compliance activities where required.
  • Participate in team initiatives, knowledge sharing, and special projects that improve the quality and efficiency of BDO GrantMatch's services.
