Our Nuclear Canada business is experiencing significant growth driven in part by planned New Build projects underway internationally and domestically. Candu Energy Inc., an AtkinsRéalis company, has entered into an agreement with Ontario Power Generation (OPG) to deliver the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP). The project is spearheading deployment of the GEH BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactor (SMR) and will require disciplined integration of engineering, procurement, construction, quality, safety, project controls, commercial management, and stakeholder interfaces.

The Project Director – Construction Compliance will be responsible for assigned construction-delivery scopes within the DNNP SMR, including but not limited to civil, structural, infrastructure, and geotechnical work. The role will serve as a compliance gate for commencement, execution, completion, turnover, and closeout of construction deliverables. The position requires close stakeholder management across the integrated project delivery team, client, designer, constructor, suppliers, regulators, and other delivery partners. This role reports to the Project Director – QPMT and provides support to the Candu Energy Inc. Site Engineering Office (SEO) and collaborates extensively with the Constructor site delivery team.

The successful candidate is expected to have significant experience delivering complex, high-value EPCC and multidisciplinary construction projects. A strong understanding of civil and structural construction, contract administration, project controls, quality management, safety, risk, change, and Construction Completion Assurance is essential.

Your role

    • Verify that construction readiness, work packaging, inspection and test planning, hold and witness points, testing, punch-list management, system or area completion, turnover, and closeout requirements are satisfied.
    • Monitor construction methods, workmanship, quality records, testing results, repairs, retesting, and acceptance to verify compliance with project requirements.
    • Provide independent challenge and escalation where objective evidence does not demonstrate readiness, conformity, completion, or acceptance.
  • Quality, Safety and Regulatory Compliance
    • Ensure assigned activities are performed in accordance with applicable laws, licences, codes, standards, approved quality programs, project procedures, and technical requirements.
    • Integrate quality and safety into planning and execution, including prevention and control of non-conformances, corrective action, lessons learned, and continual improvement.
    • As requested, support audits/assessments, surveillances, inspections, regulatory interactions, and management reviews applicable to the assigned scope.
  • People Leadership and Stakeholder Management
    • Build, lead, and develop a multidisciplinary team capable of supporting construction compliance across the project lifecycle.
